There have been some very good points made above about the relative merits of solos and what they represent in some genres of music and so on, but if I had to pick a solo from the ‘era’ and ‘genre’ in which it falls, this solo by Viv Campbell would be right up there with Iommi’s solo on Over and Over from the Mob Rules album.Having considered solos by Friedman, Moore, Jabs, Schenker, DiMartini, Hammet, Lifeson, Emmett, EVH, Sykes, and just about everyone else I can possibly think of, my vote was for Vivian Campbell's solo in "The Last In Line" because it really delivers everything in my evaluation criteria.
For those unfamiliar, here's my submission. Solo begins at 2:52
One of my fave AC DC tracks! One of my favorites from Angus:
One of my favorites from Angus:
Simple, Randy Rhoads.
I could pick any lead from him, but this one is tops. Tasty, precise, and fits the song and mood. The guy left way to too early.
One of my favorite leads ever...Mr Crowley!
