Grandson learning progress

I’ve been teaching my grandson to play guitar. Unfortunately I only get to teach him 1 or 2 days a week.
He knows all his major open chords (except F, I took pity on him)

Today he was able to switch smoothly between an E Chord and an A and back again. It sounded really good until he got super excited and started channeling his inner EVH. lol.

Next one is going to be switching between A and D. I figure that should be easier since he had the A chord already under his fingers.

The look on his face when he realized he sounded good was priceless!

His dexterity isnt quite there yet.
He has trouble with B, G, and for whatever reason C.
He knows how to shape his fingers. Just really slow getting to them.
Thats when I decided to wait for F.

My plan is to get his Major open down first.
Then move on to Minors. By then he should have enough strength and finger dexterity to hopefully switch between them all.
Then I plan to do Barre chords, then power chords should be nothing for him to learn.
By this point he should know most if not the entire fretboard.

Then its on to scales

That’s great @LiveeviL2000
I started with power chords ..
And finally moved to open,, I did it very late.. but I have struggled with most of them..
Good on you for teaching him the correct way.

Cheers
Mitch
I just hope he sticks with it.
It’s very difficult since I usually only see him on Mondays.
I try to get about 15-20 minutes.
Kids at that age absorb information like a sponge.
I try to teach him something new one monday and practice it for 2 or 3 Mondays.
It’s a slow go.
