Got a job interview in 2 hours

Strangest interview I've ever done...
Quickest also. All of about 8 minutes. I could see that he liked my resume... He said he also talked with my former co workers, and that they spoke very highly of me....double checked to see that I would be available for a 4/10 graveyard shift, asked me a little bit about myself, what I like to do in this area, and my history working in data centers...and then pretty much said "OK, well I will personally let you know hopefully within a week what we're going to do"....so it was pretty brief.

I'm not exactly sure how to feel about it. Either I am already in, and this was just a formality....or I'm not. But I don't feel like it was any slam dunk....he didn't even ask about anything that I would consider very important for a person who is looking to take the position should know.. and he wasn't even sure what kind of equipment they are currently dealing with, just that it's a different brand to what I've dealt with...

So all in all, part of me wants to say that it's a done deal and that the job is mine, and another part of me is left confused as hell about what just happened....and I have no real idea what to expect.

I guess only one of two things will happen now: either I will be hired or I won't.

Dont sweat it dude. Interviewers these days are getting weirder and more vague in their behavior. I swear its to throw you off and see if you will break in front of them or hold your ground. Just play your hand and let the chips fall

I feel like it's already been decided and that this was just a formality....

But if they already decided NOT to hire me, then why the interview at all? Why bother?

Just another thing for me to stress about for a few days I suppose lol

As far as sweating it....I kinda need the job. Or at least a job. As soon as possible, preferably lol...

I understand completely. Being left hanging, sucks. You start wondering which way its gonna go and start doubting yourself, but dont. A lot of companies are forced to have interviews and there's a timeline they have to adhere to. Some are open interviews for a week, some can go a month. In that time they will have already made a choice but have to carry out the formality.

I went thru this from April 2011 until April 2012 with the IBEW. I had two interviews, a couple of meetings and even an aptitude test. I was so frustrated with their bull poop , i was ready to just bounce because it felt like i was getting jerked around. But i found out they made the choice almost instantly but union rules mandated it took THAT long to make a decision.

The last time I interviewed for a Critical Facilities Engineer position it was much the same. I had to do interviews as a formality even though they already had decided to hire me. We spent the time talking about everything other than the job lol

I liked that job. Too bad it all went to poop or else I would still be there.

This one was kinda similar in that we didn't talk much about work....or much of anything for that matter as it was very brief...

It's out of my hands now. Time to toke one down and chill out about it. Being nervous about stuff wrecks me up pretty good, I get the shits, I don't sleep, etc. Hate that part.

Sometimes when they already have their minds made up, a second interview will be a formality. Basically to appease all applicants, and cover their own asses if someone else feels they were better qualified, and was upset they were not chosen.

Very rare exceptions are like my current job. I did not have to fly to Chicago twice for the level 2 and 3 interviews. I was in a position that the regional service manager was able claim that they needed to grab me before someone else does, and get an offer the next day.

They probably called you in to just cover the bases, and you'll hear from them in a week. I walked into a shop once, and saw several people I used to work with at other places. Although I asked none for references, they all told the GM and shop manager that they better grab me. Since your former coworkers were able to speak well of you, sets you up in a better place because they could ask them the questions that they can't ask when calling a former employer for a reference.
 
Data Center? @mcblink is a techo-geek? Right on, I knew there was something I liked about you.
Not exactly...A CFE has more to do with the mechanical operations of the facilities...

I found this very basic description from a quick Google:

A critical facilities engineer works with all major systems within a facility or building, such as electrical and HVAC systems. As a critical facilities engineer, you perform regular maintenance on all systems or contract out support from contractors as needed. Your responsibilities include the repair of all systems. You also monitor and troubleshoot systems as problems arise. Your duties require an understanding of safe work practices, which are set by OSHA. You must have skills and experience related to working with building information systems and coordinating with IT to improve the systems. Building backup systems and following LEED practices are also part of your job.
 
On another note, I was literally just now sent an email stating that this company is putting the position on hold, but they expect to pick up the interview process again in the next few weeks and I should expect to be contacted then :unsure:...

So I dunno, maybe covid related, maybe not?
