Good Songs for Newbie Drummers...

Warning: Spelling Correction Alert!

The correction below comes as a result of Smitty_p's anal-retentive inability to just let some things go. Also, since he suffered a minor aneurysm and experienced the discomfort of his eyeballs trading eye sockets upon reading the above spellings, the following correction is necessary to avoid any further injury.

*********

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The title of the song by Iron Butterfly is not a single word. The title consists of multiple words. The correct spelling of the title is as follows:

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Thank you for reading.

Correction noted and done ;)
1. Green Onions (booker t and the mg's)
2. Rumble (link wray)
3. My Woman From Tokyo (deep purple)
4. Like A Stone (audioslave)
5. Ringo Star Abby Road Drum Solo
6. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (iron butterfly)
7. I'm Eighteen (original alice cooper band)
...
n.

So ironic that Ringo’s “solo” is considered easy, but the rest of his drumming is a masterclass of subtlety and playing to the song, while still being deceptively complex and dynamic. He is a god.

Oh, and for a song- S.O.S. (Too Bad) by Aerosmith. Great tom/kick interaction in that tune.

Not sure if I consider Rongo's solo easy, at least not for me as a newbie. But, it is fairly short, contains a good steady beat, and to should be a good solo to try and get down pat...

I've heard that some of Ringo's uniqueness stems from the fact that he was left-handed, but played a set arranged for right-handed drummers. Hence, there were some interesting rhythmic elements that resulted.

Interviewer: "Are you a Mod or a Rocker?"
Ringo: " I'm a mocker".

Good luck in your endeavor!
I'd love to get a kit and have at it but between guitar and harmonica I have enough instruments I cant quite play already.

I like that "mocker" idea - lol...

Anything by RUSH

I know I'll get pummeled, but I'm not a big Rush fan. I don't dislike them either, etc, just not something I'd choose to listen to if I where picking bands/songs. Although Neal Pert is a renowned drummer for sure and to say the least.

I seen an interview where Ringo stated in the old days you could hardly tell what was being played on stage and you did good just to keep a steady beat and accent changes. I would have to say my two favorite drummers are John Bonham and Neal Smith, but if I picked a third it would probably be Ringo Star (he's just plain solid, man).

Okay...I see what's going on here...

Owegi changed his name to Drumoid.

Ah, ha!

So, you thought you could just sneak that one past us, huh?

Anyway, for a song to learn (and since we've moved way past beginner/newbie with most of these recommendations), how 'bout something actually recorded in this century:

Still putt'n along on the drums. The wife bought me a new used set of drums. It's a Yamaha DTxpress III Special set. It's a pretty old set but in decent shape. So, my Simmons set will be passed to my daughters rodent that I refer to as the Toad'ster - lol. Gotta have nick names for kids...

Here is a stock picture of the set. Mine has a nice Ludwig pedal, but other than that it's the same.

So, I'm on a learning curve for this set and will bide my time on this one hopefully until we get into our own home at which time I'm hoping to get the kit I really want.

Aren't my examples from this century? and yes Ringo is a God on drums, a master. He is even a lefty who plays his kit righty. It messes with righty's trying to learn his chops sometimes.

I write left handed, play a right hand guitar, and I guess the drums right handed. Never really thought about it. I'm told I'm left handed, but I kind of do things which ever way I'm shown or is available I guess. What ever works.
