Thanks @Gahr !!
EB "P" started life as an EB -- in 1962-- at some point in the late 60's or early 70's SOMEONE (im guessing drugs were involved) thought it would be good to add "P" bass pups----and someone ALSO thought it would be good to make it FRETLESS --- which they did (and a very GOOD job)--its a rare--odd ball rare funky beast for sure -- and just HEAVEN to play -- with flats -- its effortless----

THe Les Paul Recording is BONE Stock all original late 1970 Mfct for 1971 release --- almost flawless except for buckle rash on the back
tell me about that Gibson LP Recording if you could. Don't know much history on those & don't think ever saw one in person that i can recall.

THat is a NICE T-40!!!!!!!!!

LEs Paul Recording guitars are --- amazing for ---well Recording-- which I dont do -- but they are still an iconic odd and rare bird

THis is one of the most precise and informative articles on the model

through much research mine seems to be a first run -- with "innerds" dating '69 and '70 ---so the folks I spoke to at Gibson and George Gruhn himself--guestimated it was a late 70's build for a 71 launch --so one of the first of the first ---

IT weights a ton-- and is truly a pleasure to play --- though much of the funky electrics is lost IMHO when going through an amp-- this was designed to record-
IT is one of the cleanest sounding guitars ever ---pure signal--- then you "funk" with it from the amp--pedals or board ---

to own it is a pleasure --- I have wanted one since I was a kid ----and for those not initiated into the long tale------Im a flipper -- I started with a couple cheap guitars and an amp my wife FOUND in a rubbish pile of a family that had moved or been evicted (it was in 3 pieces) I rebuilt it--and started buying damaged stuff fixing it and flipping it for profit
I was some what successful--- and then one day found the LPR at Jimmys Vintage Music in AUburndale Fl--and I had to make my move -- I wouldnt spend the $ he was asking for it
I did have a pile of gear that on "paper" totaled more than his asking price (I didnt have that "in" on it) and so

I loaded down a 99 Subaru and off I went.........

and I came back with this
all original --- beauty in original (though battered) case

A pure joy to play

IF you ever get a chance --- do try one out --- its a rare bird for sure

So are the pups high or low input?

there arent many "in the wild" -- I cant find exact figures for production (Gibson/Norlin were apparently HORRIBLE at record keeping)

the body is NOT exactly a standard les paul-- it has a belly cut on the back -- its wider than a regular lester it will fit but its "tight" to get it in a modern Epi or Gibbo les paul case--
