Well, boys and girls, I'm takin' the plunge.

I'm gonna find out about StringJoy strings. I have a three-pack of these on their way.

What makes these different from a normal 9 - 42 set is that these use a .012 and a .015 string for B and G, instead of a .011 and .016, which is supposed to result in a more balanced set.

If I like these, it will also mean I go back to using a plain third instead of a wound third string, which I've been doing for the last few years.

I'll keep y'all posted.

Well, I’ve restrung a couple guitars with these and even played a couple of them at a gig yesterday.

I can’t say they are a “night and day” change, but I do like them enough that I ordered another three-pack.

They do settle in pretty quickly and seem a little less finicky about stretching out than some other strings.

I do like their choice to use a 12 and a 15 on the B and G rather than an 11 and a 16. They do seem a little easier to play, in that regard. The stiff 16 for the G string in a set of 9-42’s has always bugged me just a little. So, I’ll stick with them for now.
