Like the ES-150 and other jazz guitars, I like it. The magnet is right at the second octave, and would make some nice harmonics.

As for @Clockworkmike wondering about middle position guitars, Lenny Kaye of the Patti Smith Group has been playing a Strat with only the middle pickup for years.

Since Peavey introduced their headstock design in the 1970’s, with the T-60 guitar and T-40 bass, I’m guessing…

Actually, I don’t think one necessarily copied the other.

Look pretty similar to my eye, but you make a solid point.

I sometimes use the middle and neck pickups on my Stratocaster, but I wouldn't want to be forced to "live there."

Sure have! I think it’s actually pretty well acknowledged that Fender lifted the headstock idea from the Bigsby.

Sure have! I think it’s actually pretty well acknowledged that Fender lifted the headstock idea from the Bigsby.

This is a great book on Leo and Les with some Bigsby. Recommend it to anyone with an interest in that era.

Like everyone, I’m sure he has his reasons for doing it. There would definitely be less magnetic pull on the strings. He’ll swap to a regular Strat occasionally during a show, but that one is the work horse. Seeing them a few times, I can say his live sound is awesome. Especially when he plays the solo in “Dancing Barefoot.”

I'd like to try it. My favourite guitar (Weir Poorboy) I own has one pickup in the neck position. It can be very clean or very greasy. Here is something I recorded to a backing track with this guitar.
