For my project Stratocaster, I have quite a few humbucker pickups laying around.

Many Epiphones, some Gibson 490's, some Jackson, Duncan Designed, etc.

Two pair that look interesting are some Gibson DSC 'Double-Slugs' and some Artec's.

The Artec's have nickel-silver baseplates like the Gibson's and wood spacers. The Bridge is a Milestone Series 'Classic Standard' with an A4 magnet measuring 8.6k.

The neck is a GVH-59, Alnico 5 with nickel-silver baseplates and wood spacers measuring 7.4k.

The Gibson's are a pair of DSC's from a 2017 Firebird Zero. They feature ceramic magnets and spec out to 7.9 and 8.2k respectively.

I found this review online, but I realize tone is very subjective:

"The Firebird Zero comes outfitted with a pair of Gibson DS-C humbuckers. While they’re advertised as “punchy,” that description doesn’t do these things justice: they’re humbuckers in name only and sound far more like single-coils in reality. It’s hard to get much bass or warmth out of these pickups, and at points, they’re so bright they could outshine a Stratocaster..."

Anybody have actual experience with either of these???

actually yes...

and I DO BELIEVE a member here (@CabanaBoy ) spoke to Gibson DIRECTLY about those pickups in that series of gutiars --IMHO the plate should read GIBSON USA "designed"

to answer the actual question I think --- uhm-- no...."outshie strat pickups" --- uhm -- no

bright and punchy -- yes--
no bass, ?? Hardly...the FBZ had great tone -- it was stupid good for its price point as a GIBSON when MOST epiphones are NORTH of 400.00 now......and UP--
 
and furthermore---

WHY does it matter ?

Only because I have these on hand.
 
I have SEVERAL Gibsons with NON gibson pups (the HORROR!!!!!) that sounded BETTER with the NON GIBSON pups (sorry they just did/do) and I LOVE the sound---that said I have almost as many WITH the STOCK pickups.................and I love the way THEY sound
I have home mades with Epi pups
and Epis with Dimarzzios and Squires with GM's and Squires w/ Duncans and Fenders with stockers and ....PEAVEYS w/ Schallers.....stockers.....Duncans.........--- its-- just not important the NAME on the bloody thing
if it SOUNDS GOOD ...........no body sees the name ------ they just HEAR the FUN and GOOD time music ...............................

so
do it

if ya dont like it ---------- DO IT AGAIN w/ something else ;)
