Gibson LP in an Epiphone LP case?

Anybody tried this?

The Gibson and Gator cases are so expensive that I'm thinking:

An Epi at about $85:

An SKB at about $150:

Or an SKB semi-hard (I like the light weight) at about $100:

I can't find anything else well-priced locally, and the cheapest Gibson case bought on ebay and delivered here is $250.

I also like the idea that an Epi or SKB case might be less attractive to thieves.

What's your experience?

I'd get the SKB.

Yeah, everyone says that the SKB is very good, but by the time I've paid $150 for that, added another $130 for a BK bridge PU, that's $280, and if I can get most of my money back on the BK neck P90 that be around $400 then I'd only be $100 or so from the Studi which comes in a case and with a couple of pickups I like.

But, yeah, at least I know a LP fits in the SKB case whilst I'm not certain that it fits well in the Epi case.

I keep forgetting you are in the East....

I been really happy with Gator cases. I ordered one for my Les Paul based on how good the one I have for my SG has been.

Paid $119.00USD

I think the body dimensions are the same on the L.P. between Gibson and Epiphone, no???

It's always nice to have the case brand match the guitar brand, but at the end of the day a case is a protective/storage tool for the guitar. My main concerns with cases is that they fit the guitar correctly.

Yes, you fellas are right, but beggars can't be chooses in this neck of the woods. I've seen some folks on some forums suggesting a Gibson in an Epi case isn't as snug as in a Gibson case.

+1 on the SKB case. I own three of these now, but I never paid $150 for any of them.
I watched for them to go onsale at Musician's Friend. When I saw them for $89,
I pounced. This is the course I recommend for you. Use something cheaper until
you can find an SKB case at an affordable price.

Here's why: The SKB is very tough and hard, it doesn't get scraped when you shove it
in and out of travel vans, or bump into doorways and wall corners while loading in to
unknown places. Nothing scratches it, unless punks with knives set to work on it.
Only blows from a hammer or bullets from a pistol would break it.

Not only that, these cases are smooth and don't do any harm to the other guitar cases
that you stack them with in the back of the van. The latches are well protected from the
gorillas in the airline handling rooms, and they don't break off. If you don't travel to dodgy gigs
like I do, with lots of instruments bouncing around in the back of the van, maybe something
less durable would serve.

I also own a fine Gibson case for my prized favorite SG, and it's lovely but I always am
worried about abrasion and damage... to the case. The Gibson case can be gouged by
protruding metal things, it can be scraped by collisions with concrete or rusty truck parts.
So the case itself needs baby sitting. *shrugs... It's elegant, but vulnerable, like a fine Gibson.

I also bought the best Epiphone case for my Epi ES-339. My reasoning for this was like yours...
I wanted an exact fit. I like this guitar way out of proportion to its humble MIC pedigree, and the
body size is unusual enough that I wanted something made specifically for it. The Epi case is
really nice, about half as elegant as the Gibbie (and half the price). It's a good serviceable hard shell
case. And good camouflage for a Gibson Les Paul. But vulnerable to scratches and abrasion,
collisions and falls. So I seem to baby that case too. Ridiculous, if you think about it.

The SKB cases need no extra precautions or worry. And I like that.

I sort of did it. My 2016 Firebird came with a body, er...gig bag. No bueno. So I got the Epiphone 'bird case for it and it is a perfect fit and better-made than expected.

I also have a couple of SKB's that came stock with my G&L guitars and they are really nice cases.

I have a Gator case that I got for a PRS S2 that came with a bag and it is also a really nice case for the money.

Doesn't the Epiphone case have a little extra room for a longer headstock?

Hmmm, that may be the reason. I think the Gibson fits, but squiggles a bit. I don't mind adding a towel or something, but I'm just not sure how loose it will be.

One of Willys old bar jam country singers buddys
used to be my friends landlord and has lived up the road here for years in the same house well he always played Martin acoustics like Willy
and after his 3rd or 4th was stolen he started carrying and keeping them in I think Yamaha or guild cases hell I cant remember but he said he aint had another one stolen

Yeah, maybe I'm thinking too much, but I like that idea. A part of me wants a lovely brown Gibson case, but another part of me wants a shitty old dirty half beaten up Epiphone case.

I wish. Here, $150 is in the sale! But, I do take your points; thank you for sharing. I might well go SKB.

The Gator cases are strong and functional, but they're also pretty damn heavy if my Gator acoustic case is anything to go by. They are also a lot more expensive in Korea than the SKB cases, so going SKB is a no-brainer out of those two. Interesting that your Gibson fitted in your Epi case fine.

If I can find a shop with lots of cases at decent prices then I suppose the thing is to go there with the guitar and just try them out.

^ that's a good idea too - I will check ebay to see what's available. Being large, the delivery cost is often an issue in Korea.

Thanks for the suggestions. That 60s tribute with P90s is still at the top of my list although the bloody guitar shop stuck half a dozen new Gibsons into their stock last night; some are rather lovely.

Agile guitars are made in Korea. Any chance there are some available to you? They are amazing

No, they are not available. Many MIK guitars don't actually sell here. Have you seen this one, RVA?

(Has it's own case, so that's $250 saved...)

I don't know if you ordered this yet but just ordered a case for my SG. 2016 Gibson cheaped out and the Standard got a gig bag :( I ordered a Gator for $10 more than the Epi case. I kept reading the Epi neck angle in those cases aren't right and the guitars move around in them. What I kept reading is the neck angle for the SG was off and the top actually put undo pressure right at the weak point. My case should be here tomorrow....Gator GW-SGS Traditional Laminated SGS Solid Guitar Style Guitar Wood Case
I have had Gibson cases that look identical to these so I can deal with the Pink :p
LP version & same price as an Epi LP case.....Gator GW-LPS Guitar Case for Single Cutaway Electric Guitars

AMS has these on sale which I wish I would have seen before I ordered mine....Gator GCLPS Deluxe Electric Guitar Case

Okay Grumpy boo just for you .
I tried both LP trad and the Lp classic n epi cases don't know who claims they wiggle THEY DONT .
and they are actually a decent fit .
I was reading it in reviews & when you read it in a couple different places and ordering online I tend to go with what I know having owned a few Gator's now. I have no 1st hand experience with Epi cases but Gator being the same price I played it safe.
