Gibson Announces New CEO

BUT Godin ALSO makes guitars in the U.S. -- so then in that vein are those US Godins sub par (like the presumed MIM Fenders are) to the Canadian Godins?????.....and if so -- exactly how---

To me, as a consumer, it seriously diminishes the perceived value of the brand name and I believe dilutes resale by flooding the market with all manner of products carrying the same name (i.e. Fender Stratocaster) at different price and quality points. It's fine to me for a company to stratify their products but not for a company to manufacture essentially identical products with the same brand and product names, differentiated only by country of origin and price point. I don't feel it does anyone any favors, and I don't look at Fender the same since they started these shenanigans.

Sometimes the country of manufacture means something, and is a valuable selling point. I wouldn't buy a Rolex not made in Switzerland or an Audi not made in Germany, and I damn sure would not buy a Gibson made anywhere but the US.

As with all things, opinions vary and you may feel differently.

It's actually a real good guitar and I read somewhere that Mexican Strats made between 1995 to 2000 where some of the best Strats made so I was lucky to find one at the pawn shop for under $400 used. -- 3 hour drive roughly-- not a huge difference--

IMHO -- I own a 50.00 Squire P bass from a pawn shop -- that gets more "play time " than my vintage Gibsons-- costing much more -----
at the end of the day -- play what feels good and stuff the name on the headstock
 
There are a few electric guitars that are assembled in U.S.A they are not made there. To answer your question no they would not be sub par because of the assembly they do not make the guitars. Godin has 5 plants in Quebec and 1 in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire plant is for assembly for some electric guitars ,all acoustics, and most electrics are made and assembled in Canada only.

I didn't say they are sub par, at least not for the various price points. A MiM Strat is purposely built and marketed by Fender as a slightly lesser instrument as compared to it's American-made sibling. And that's precisely my issue: in my personal opinion Fender had diminished the perceived value of both by calling them the same thing. I would never pay full pop for a USA Fender again, because Fender themselves don't seem to think enough of them to give them a completely unique position in their catalog.
 
Well -- I guess it is opinion--- I spent many moons playing MANY U.S.-- Korean... Japanese..Chinese ...Indonesian... MIM and home brew partscasters-- Stratocasters--- looking for the "one"

price points from (Im not joking) 45.00 to 1450.00----

a 243.00 used MIM standard strat from 2008-- bone stock --- has me LOVING the previously shunned and ridiculed Strat....

So..... say what you may but I am very happy with my El Cheapo Guapo Stratocast'or Senoir! :)

Hey man, I say play what you want. Mex Strats and Teles are great, solid guitars. Pro-level stuff. But Fender should have called them something different IMO. That's all.
 
After 25yrs of guitar building, Godin still hand finish the necks and bodies on every Godin guitar, in fact from fretting to sanding. There is more hand work in a Godin guitar than you would find in most Custom shops, from the selection of wood to the final adjustments on the finished Instrument.

Gibson moving Memphis operations to Nashville

I guess the new CEO is making some moves. Not surprised that this is happening from Gibson Brands:
After thorough evaluation and amid the previously disclosed April 2019 expiration of our Memphis lease, we have determined that integrating the company’s Memphis operations with our Gibson USA and Gibson Custom facilities in Nashville, where Gibson is headquartered, is the right next step for our business. This integration will provide the company with an opportunity to drive scale, streamline our production, and create much needed synergy. With this planned integration, a number of Memphis-based employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Nashville and our goal over the next several months is to support our employees and allow our business to have the appropriate time to manage this transition accordingly.

That's a shame insomuchas the Memphis guitars did seem to have their own thing going on, and a very nice thing it was too.
