For one of these:
SG Special 2017 T

I have not plugged it in yet even. I've examined it closely. It has incredible action from the gate. It has a pretty bitchen neck on it.

If I plug it in I'm scared I'll buy it. It comes with 9s! ( I like that!) from the factory. A gig bag. ( I soon would get a hardcase for it )

I know what 490s sound like. These come with ALNICO II magnets. I have 490/498 combo on my 1998 LP Special SL already. A great sounding guitar.

I still owe money but I have been working.

I will plug it in next time I go to GC.

Oh no! I'm doomed!

Talk me out of it boys! Pretty please!

Errrm, no.

Very nice they are, but being a special with 490s you have endless others to choose from, and you probably don't wanna spend more than $750 on a new one (say a 2016 with mini-humbuckers).

I will mention that the satin finish plays and feels great, but comes off in lumps and scrapes after a few weeks; looking particularly ugly on the black - I wouldn't buy a Gibson satin finish again (sold the 2013 tribute for this reason). The fadeds, especially the brown, have a far nicer finish, imho. Or it's gloss...

Here you go: SG Faded 2017 T

Or, in the good ole U S of A you might be able to pick up a white or pelham blue standard for $1200 ish including a case? Makes the $999 for that special with a gigbag look more than a tad pricey...

The ALNICO II pups sound awesome. It sounds, plays and feels like some of the higher end SGs I've tried out. The neck pup I had to adjust the tone on it a bit brighter than a Lester. ( Not sure if this is common for SGs ) The neck is beautiful, the burst finish is just awesome. This guitar feels just as perfect when I first played it as my Strat Special. It even had one string ( the G ) out of tune, like the first time I played my Strat Special. The 490s sound just fine by me. As a matter of fact they're excellent. Brand new, clean no dings, no marks and a perfect neck with some bitchen tone. I was able to get it out the door at $873. The other ones which were as nice as this one were going for $1200+. I'm using my hard case for my Epi SG Special for it and the Epi is going into the padded gig bag it came with. It also comes with some case candy. A cheap Gibson strap, truss rod tool and allen wrench are included with hang tags and Gibson general manual. The tone wood body is also sweet and very light on this guitar. It feels like it will be a great deal easier on my back. So I finally got my first Gibson SG. I made the mistake of not getting a Fender with a light ash body with great tone years ago for around the same amount of cash as this. I was not about to let this one slip through the cracks.

Looks great, and much as other folks will lambaste me for saying so: The Gibson SG, even a 'low-end' special is a really nice guitar that's worth every penny - the quality, feel and sound when compared to a $500-600 Korean/Chinese made similar style guitar is so much better. I really like the gold silver reflectors and the 70s block inlays on yours.

But, take care with the finish: initially, the strap will rub the thin nitro then just gauge it off (maybe 3-4 weeks) then the marks will just keep coming! This guitar will looked relic'd within 3-6 months. They are so light and easy to play, just fun - I think I will pick my special faded up for a bash...

The 490 in the neck is fantastic, especially with some of the amps you have! The 490T can be nice if you get the height right, but many folks change that one.

Congrats! You love your gear and YOLO. You will just work a harder and make up the $$ by saving on something less important. Enjoy!!

Talk me out of it boys! Pretty please!
I'll do my best to talk you down.
Now listen to the voice of reason...
Nahhh, no one wants to listen to that.

Do it, Get it. Whatever it takes.
It's impossible to resist the lure of a new Gibson, especially an SG.
Your life will be fuller. Your happiness will increase tenfold.
Your guitar playing will reach new heights.
Chicks will swoon.

So, did you get it yet???

The middle one is stunning.....the one on the far left looks left out.....perhaps you send to me for proper burial?

Do you guys think I should throw on a cream colored poker chip on it? I actually have the tool to do it with without marring the chip or guitar. I'm starting to talk myself into it. This one came with a regular truss rod cover instead of the one which says "Special." I'm going to leave it that way. One of the things I've noticed is when I watch demos of this guitar is that the ones on the demos have the same 490 tone which I'm getting. Both clean and distorted it has a certain something "cool vintage tone vibe" about it. Dist/OD should be used sparingly on this guitar because of how these pups respond. I need to change the strings on it today. I've been busy as usual. Right now my brakes are getting done. I had to take a lay off yesterday instead of today because my brakes appeared to be needing service on Sunday. My sister had to give me a ride to work yesterday. One of my best buddies gave me a ride home after I got off.
