Get my guitar back

ALSO -- a good thing to do--- find an EL CHEAPO garage sale --- low end whatever gutiar --- something 100.00 or under--- and PRACTICE setting it up--- adjusting the truss rod.....tight---lose ---- see how it effects things--- raise and lower the action...swap out the nut...just "mess" with it ....then once you have IT set and playing right ---and your confidence is soaring--- yur good to go on your beloved Godins ;)

I really don't want someone to do a setup for me. No one knows how I like a guitar set up except me. I have bought some guitars they said were set up. The truss rod had a back bow, the bridge was goofy high and the nut was probably cut in the dark. I know I'm picky and should learn to play a guitar with the strings an inch high and half off the finger board. That at least was close for some one that never saw a guitar before. Epiphone said they wait on the boat and then set the guitars up here in the States. Epiphone your nose is growing! I got one of your American set up guitars with a broken string and the Tune O matic bridge in the F hole! I want the bridge in the bridge place. It was creative. I took it from there.

Yes for sure Kev. About 95% of guitars out there need a setup when you get them, for some of the reasons you have mentioned. When I get my guitars I take them in for a complete setup, the guy knows me and knows what I like. He is an awesome Luthier! The nice thing about it is once the guitar is setup properly there should be very little to do with it . Unless you are living in a severe high humidity area. I have seen some leave their guitar sitting in a hot car or hot environment. these are a few other things that cause major troubles. If the guitar is kept in controlled environment and its a well made guitar, there should be little troubles, other than normal wear and tear. I take my axes in for setup once per year, when they have come back he has told me they have had little change. A couple of things I believe contribute to this is I keep the guitars from being exposed to major temperature changes, and throughout the year when I change my strings I cut and replace them one at a time, keeping continued tension on the neck.

I learned how to set up guitars after my second guitar was damaged hy a "tech". No one cares for your stuff like you do. Also, no one knows what you like in the way you do. Heck, you might not even get it right the first time and may have to make small tweaks after the initial "textbook" setup. Finally, you save a bunch of money and time. In short, there are many advantages to learning how to do it yourself.

I'll jump in to also encourage you to learn to do it yourself. I have been doing mine for at least 20-25 years now, because every time I got a guitar back from a setup it still needed to be dialed in that last 10% before I was comfortable with it. Since I was already readjusting it, I decided there was no reason not to learn to do the whole process myself. Invest in the tools you need, they will serve you well and pay for themselves, plus you'll have the benefit of your guitars always being perfect for you.

I understand and there are things that I would rather someone else with experience do. The only I need done right is the work that has to be done on my guitar. The thing is finding the time my friend.
