Why you learn to do it urself![]()
No JohnnyGoo. I just leave it with the Expert. I change my own strings that's as far as I go.![]()
Also --keeping in mind-----depending on how far away you "sent it" --- it could need a tweak or two once you get it to your home.
^^^ Like Johnny said. There are many knowledgeable members here who can give you all the guidance you need to do a great job yourself. Reach out to me anytime and I will help any way I can
ALSO -- a good thing to do--- find an EL CHEAPO garage sale --- low end whatever gutiar --- something 100.00 or under--- and PRACTICE setting it up--- adjusting the truss rod.....tight---lose ---- see how it effects things--- raise and lower the action...swap out the nut...just "mess" with it ....then once you have IT set and playing right ---and your confidence is soaring--- yur good to go on your beloved Godins![]()
I really don't want someone to do a setup for me. No one knows how I like a guitar set up except me. I have bought some guitars they said were set up. The truss rod had a back bow, the bridge was goofy high and the nut was probably cut in the dark. I know I'm picky and should learn to play a guitar with the strings an inch high and half off the finger board. That at least was close for some one that never saw a guitar before. Epiphone said they wait on the boat and then set the guitars up here in the States. Epiphone your nose is growing! I got one of your American set up guitars with a broken string and the Tune O matic bridge in the F hole! I want the bridge in the bridge place. It was creative. I took it from there.
I can see wanting to learn it someday.

Yes for sure Kev. About 95% of guitars out there need a setup when you get them, for some of the reasons you have mentioned. When I get my guitars I take them in for a complete setup, the guy knows me and knows what I like. He is an awesome Luthier! The nice thing about it is once the guitar is setup properly there should be very little to do with it . Unless you are living in a severe high humidity area. I have seen some leave their guitar sitting in a hot car or hot environment. these are a few other things that cause major troubles. If the guitar is kept in controlled environment and its a well made guitar, there should be little troubles, other than normal wear and tear. I take my axes in for setup once per year, when they have come back he has told me they have had little change. A couple of things I believe contribute to this is I keep the guitars from being exposed to major temperature changes, and throughout the year when I change my strings I cut and replace them one at a time, keeping continued tension on the neck.
