German Heavy Metal Guitar

So true but in the late 70’s early80’s
We called it heavy metal
I'm probably a bit older and did not recognize it as "metal", just as hard rock which alsohad to establish during the 70s. And of course, heavy metal indeed developed directly from the hard rock of groups like Led Zep, Purple, Black Sabbath and some others and a bit later UFO and Scorpions. These, especially Black Sabbath, are the pioneers in that genre. At least to me. Although they just layed the foundation.

But it is hard to draw a hard line in a more or less continuous development.

And the harder it gets the more i'm out. Although i like to play loud. (Last weekend with my Mywatt (DR201 clone) distorting on a double fifteen...)

I also grew up on the hard rock of the bands you had mentioned, in 1976 I heard a band like no other at the time.
Judas Priest, I then found the Scorpions in the import bins in the record stores .
I would then try many different bands based on the album cover art work, lol I found some good stuff and some I don’t even remember now.
By the late 70’ early 80’s the bands that I liked the most where classified as the NWOBHM.
So I always thought I was a heavy metal guitarist.
But that has all changed, and I consider myself a hard rock guitarist ,

I can see how the lines have blurred over time. I agree with the consensus that Scorpions are classic hard rock....as is AC/DC...Even Lemmy described Motorhead as being Rock-N-Roll and nothing more.

True but during the Hey day of headbangers ball they where all classified as heavy metal, even the bands like Ratt, Docken.
That’s why when people ask what style of music you play as of the last 10 years.
I reply blues based hard rock
