Gear Warranty Merry-Go-Round

Man, that sucks.

Re: Schecter. I have a buddy who bought a high end Keith Merrow model on FB Marketplace from some guy who, well, let's say didn't take care of it. When my buddy got it, it was missing a cover, had a damaged tuner and one of the pots didn't work great. My buddy called Schecter just to buy the replacement parts and they told him "This guitar is still under warranty, give us your address and we'll ship you the parts if you don't mind installing them yourself..." BOOM he was able to return the guitar to nearly brand new condition after a little polishing and swapping in the parts Schecter sent him for free.

Just can't beat that.

As for the merry-go-round, we bought a PS4 controller for my son from Walmart (they were the only place in town that had one) and we bought the extended warranty. Well, the control got the dreaded stick drift within a month. Took it back to Walmart and they gave me the same run around... aimed me at the warranty company who aimed me back at Walmart... after about 10 hours, I gave up and we still have the broken controller...

All is done. New knob, free of charge. Fixing the wiring short no charge. Contact spray the hell out of everything no charge. Even adjusted intonation ... no charge.
All this without even looking to see if my warranty was valid.
Rob, the tech at Sam Ash in Springfield NJ is the man. Oh, and I'm a fan of that store. Its huge filled with goodies. I'm absolutely going back there again. Was it wrong for me to give GC the finger (GC is actually across the street from Sam Ash).
Schecter sent my tuner out today. I bought new strings for my bass, I'm ready to get it going.

So much for "extended warranty." :pound-hand:
So much for GC customer service.
I would just go to Sam Ash from now on.
But the funniest part is Sam Ash covering for GC's non existent customer service. That takes the cake.

I have always thought of "extended warranty" as a scam to suck money.
But there are actually some few vendors who honor the extended warranty....it is not 100% unreliable.

This whole thread blows my mind.

I actually do write and price service contracts for customers. The idea of simply not fulfilling the agreement flabbergasts me.

1) I agree with you, it's mind blowing.
2) I love the word flabbergast!

Quite simply, GC just lost a customer for good.
Since the pandemic hit, I must have spent well over 10k on gear, accessories, etc ...
Not all from GC, but I would say a good portion was spent there.
When I went to Sam Ash last night, I was greeted at the door. Directed to where I needed to go. Helped immediately. Then when I went to buy some strings, the sales associate didnt just point to a wall. He accompanied me and searched with me for what I wanted, giving me his thoughts on the different products he had to offer.

For me, GC no more
