The new 2021 Hyundai Genesis G80. Is a real beauty inside and out. SHEXSSHHEEEE!!!

2021 Genesis G80

That is a good looking sedan, and they scoot pretty well too.
BUT...
They call it affordable luxury. At 50k it sure ain't cheap...
And if I had 50k to blow on a car it just wouldn't be a Hyundai.

Benz maybe, Hellcat sure, Vette I wouldn't fit anymore.
No, if I had 50k to spend on a car it would be a 70 Chevelle SS or an LS powered 57 Nomad.

Looks like for 2021 the Koreans are copying Jaguar/Aston...

Korean cars have improved a lot, and they often give very good warranty programs. I think Kia give 7 years in some markets. (I still wouldn't buy one though...)

I just think it's relative. For $50k you are not getting anywhere near this level of engineering/luxury/quality from any other maker. I'm not a particular fan of the styling but it's an awful lot of car for the money, considering we are living in the era of $50k pickup trucks.

I can tell you Grumpy, I have owned 9 domestic vehicles, Chrysler, GM, Ford, they were always in the shop for warranty work, I will never buy another domestic again. I am now the proud owner of my 3rd Hyundai Santa Fe , none of them have been to the shop for warranty work of any kind! We have a 5 year warranty here in Canada. My friends friends dad owns the Subaru, Volvo, Hyundai dealership here where I live. He says those Hyundai's are just so damned reliable. I can vouch for that, plus many people and friends I have talked with about their Hyundai's, they all love them.

Honestly, the cars that have held up the best for me have been German. Even after a decade of use they feel tight, like they haven't lost any performance, and the materials hold up great.

Every Ford, Dodge, GM vehicle I have owned felt like it started to deteriorate very rapidly in comparison, the suspension getting sloppy after just a few years, the performance falling off a cliff, the interiors falling apart.

I have a Subaru as my daily driver now. It's only the second Asian car I have ever bought (first experience not so great), but it's really been fantastic for the money, so looking forward to seeing how it holds up over the long-term. Have had it 4 years now and its been flawless so far.

I hear you, and agree about the technology and all, but the brand just doesn't equate to luxury for me.
Quality perhaps, but not luxury.
And I'd never buy a 50k pickup either.
I've had two Benz that were both great cars, but utilitarian.
I didn't consider them luxury cars either. Just quality cars.

The is the luxury model Santa Fe that I have , read car magazines, Hyundai Santa Fe packs much luxury for the money, you will be hard pressed to get this luxury in a comparable vehicle for the money, I know I looked. List price on this vehicle when I purchase in 2018 the suv is a 2019. Was just over $44,000.

I guess I look at it like luxury is about engineering, amenities, quality, materials, etc. Doesn't really make a difference to me who is building it as long as it's done right. All I see Hyundai doing here is the same thing that Honda, Nissan and Toyota did previously with Acura, Infiniti and Lexus...spun-off a premium brand to enter a different market segment. They seem to be doing pretty well in establishing the Genesis marque as a legitimate contender and when I looked at one up close I was very impressed. The luxury and quality seems to rival the Germans and premium Japanese brands.

MB did used to offer models in US that were more utilitarian for sure but for a while now it's been high-end or nothing. Even the least-expensive models are dripping in leather and upgrade packages, which is really a shame because they build some great basic cars for other markets.

Guys at work kept telling me to buy Foreign, so in 2010 I took their advice. That's when I bought my first Hyundai, wish I had of listened to them sooner.
They're fine cars, don't get me wrong.
My 92 year old father drives one. Yes, still driving.
Just saying that they are just not what I would consider a luxury marque.
Hell, I drive a base model Dodge, it's as far from "luxury" as one can get.
But it's fun!

I don't wanna upset people here, so I'll set it up sweetly... I love American guitars, best in the world. I love going to America, I always have a great time. I wouldn't buy a British car because they'd just fall apart and not start up in the cold weather. French cars - crap, utter crap. Spanish cars - crap. Italian cars - nice looking stuff that probably won't work. American cars, meh, actually worse. There are some great American cars of yonder, but Chevrolet, for me, are just about the worst brand on the car market, Fords, meh, generally American cars are somewhere between bad and average with a few exceptional ones that hark back to days of yonder. Buick, what awfulness... Anyways, I love me some Yiponese or, and I hate to say it: German cars are excellent (best sellers in the UK). Korean cars have improved and might be really close to Yiponese cars nowadays. I'd like to buy British, but you'd end up with an unreliable heap.

Funny ain't it, my American car (Dodge) was made in Canada.
Does that make it a foreign car when you live in the States? :pound-hand:
