Alright, admittedly I am dumb as hell to a "whammy" and it's still incredibly new to me but I gotta question some of you might be able to help me answer.

The tremolo is really nice, stable and stays in tune really well after being a little aggressive with it. But the other day, on a set a strings that weren't but a few days old, I busted the A and D when doing a slight pull up. It's set to a float but the question is: is it something either in the tension setting of the plate or possibly needing roller saddles? Or am I just a jackass who did something they shouldn't have done in the first place? Lol

Send me a photo

They were D'addario XL 9-42s. Not my usual favorites but I had a bunch of packs of them. Typically I use 10-52 hybrid size and NXYLs at that. I will snap a few photos of the bridge and the rear cavity to show what happened in the current state as I haven't changed anything yet for this very reason, to provide some evidence.

Which while we're at it: the D'addario NXYLs I had a lot of luck with but I've been open to the idea of changing it up since they are pretty pricey to be a non-coated string, much like Ernie Ball Paradigms are as well. So any suggestions is welcome

Alright here's some shots of it after busting the two strings. You can see one unraveled and the other snapped. Probably indeed, some crappy strings. But the bridge was pretty darn near level before the break, which you can see now is pitched back towards the body slightly after. The saddles, seem to be ok I guess? But then again, your eyes will definitely see something mine doesn't as mine suck lol

Paradigm is the best I've ever used

Must be strings or saddles..... unless you were trying to pull up a perfect fifth Lol.
I don't know if I'd try that even with any of my Floyds!
Lmao I am pretty stupid and borderline insane but I'm not THAT crazy, least not entirely anyways.

I DID do something incredibly stupid once at a local gear store years ago when I was starting out. I grabbed some Ibanez Talman with a Bigsby and was going crazy on it. Pulled UP and KAPINGGGG!!! : literally broke every string at once. So I quietly put it back on the rack and bailed ass outta there. Fair disclosure though: they DID burn me on an amp a few months earlier so I didn't feel too awful lmao

Serves em right.

Karma, she a ... well you know.

I just ordered a 3pk of them (10-52) for $35. Definitely worth a shot!
That's a good price for those. Coincidentally, yesterday I found an Amazon deal for a 4/pk of the Paradigms for $36 (plus tax):

For a while, I was mainly using the NYXL's and really liked them a lot. A few years ago I decided to try the Ernie Ball M-Steels and the Paradigms... and we all live happily-ever-after!

Can you you feel for any rough spots on those bridge saddles where the strings make contact?

That's a killer deal!

I checked the saddles and looked closely with a magnifying glass to see ANY pitting or gouges in the saddles and couldn't see anything honestly. They have a pretty smooth bevel to them.

I guess I'm leaning on just a bad coincidence with a cheap set of strings? Usually speaking, the D'addario XLs aren't bad really, just average. But these are from an old bulk box of them I've had for a while, so that could be the problem? They were sealed in the packaging but that doesn't mean anything if they'd been hanging around a while.

I ran out of my usual sets and grabbed one of these I had stashed

That saddle in the middle of the pic sure looks like it has rough edges ?

Kinda looks it huh? I ran my fingers around it and it was pretty smooth and looked closely under a lens but, I could be dead wrong in what constitutes a rough edge. It wouldn't be an issue on my part to go ahead and change them all as a preventative measure if that's what anyone suggests

If you have a rounded bamboo or wooden skewer, or a rounded toothpick, slide it back and forth on the saddle's edges closest to where the strings come in at the bridge plate. Does the skewer or toothpick splinter a bit?
