OK this is for the G&L aficionados here. Are there any years of the Legacy model that are considered better than the rest. I have my eye on several Legacy USA models that are burst finish that are 1999, 2012 1nd 2015. The 2012 and 2015 are new never been sold. I have an itch that needs to be scratched.

Most G&L diehards think there are two eras: those built before CLF died (1991) and those built after. I've owned a bunch of them, the earliest a '98, the most recent a '14. They have all been equally spectacular, and I don't think there is a preferred year.

I'm actually selling my legacy (that's the 2014) but not because it isn't completely awesome, it's just because I really don't play it at all and want to convert it to something I need more.

Once a long time ago. The ones I am looking at are sporting 10" and 12" radius boards which would be flatter than a Strat which is fine by me.

I have another question. I see they have waterslide style serial numbers except for this one. Was this something special?

No, all the guitars had these S/N plates for a period of time, but it was relatively short. Can't remember exactly but I think it was only like 2011-2015/16 or something. My 2014 Legacy has this type of S/N, but my 2006 ASAT doesn't, nor did any of the other G&L's I have owned. Mine has a 12" 'board and it plays like butta'

How much you looking to get for your Legacy Gball??????

Im not in the Market--- but I know someone who is...........

Going rate for the premier finishes (my guitar is trans blonde on an ash body) is about $725-$750. TBH, if it went to you or someone through this forum I would do a bro discount and let it go for $650.

This is a kind of crummy pic of it, but if someone is interested I can take some more

Hard to tell from this but you can see the wood grain very subtly but noticeably through the finish.

My G&L is '08 ASAT Bluesboy. Decal for the serial number. 12" radius... very comfy!
Was this something special?
From the guitarsbyleo.com website:

In February 2011, serial numbering was updated to CLFXXXXXX and the serial number applied onto
a metal plate in place of the waterslide decal on the back of the headstock.
This was started with serial number CLF061000 and numbering was issued in sequence.
Note: Some Special Build and Limited Edition instruments can still be found with the previous water slide serial numbering.

In September 2016, the metal serial number plate was replaced with the waterslide decal on the back of the headstock.

Starting in February 2017, serial numbers are laser-etched on the back of the headstock.
The serial number format has been changed to: "CLFYYMMnnn", where YY=last two digits of year, MM=two digit month.
Also laser-etched is "Fullerton, California" which is located below the Serial Number.
See: A recent serial numbering change ... .

I do not see a picture, just a big minus sign

OK another question. On Reverb I see A LOT of brand new 2015 G&L Legacy's. Is there a counterfeit problem with G&L like there is with Gibson?
Just seems odd seeing this many brand new 2015 guitars in 2018.

I'm not aware of any big counterfeiting problem with G&L. They are just not a big-/well-known enough brand to put that much effort into - the hardware is proprietary so copying it would cost a lot of money. Can't explain why there would be a lot of one year either or whey they would be specifically 2015's but just have not heard of there being a fakie problem.
