G&L Bluesboy mod

So, after deciding (being told, really) that the birdseye build should have gold hardware, I had a spare HB for Tele bridge sitting around. Since I am not a fan of the Tele bridge pup, I figures I would use it where it fit. The only guitar that was a match for this donation was my G&L Bluesboy. I did the routing.

I ordered a Dimarzio Super Distortion, which is F-spaced, for the bridge.

Im glad your doing this RVA. I have 2 Teles ,one has the Lindy Fralin Broadcaster pups in it and the other Tele has the Tex/Mex set in it.not bad pups but ive been mulling over the idea of putting a Humbucker in the bridge position and still use the old 3 brass barrel bridge plate. I love the old vintage set of Super Ds in my Peavey Predator and have seriously thought of buying another one to put in the bridge pos. on my Tele. So i say go for it.

I wont be doing this on the Tele with the Fralin Broadcaster pups in it for they are awesome for single coils.

How about a Seymour Duncan Little '59:

Or the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails:

The Hot Rails is very aggressive in the midrange over the Little '59

Those would work too, but this way I have options. Generally speaking, I am not a fan of SD pups

That being said, there are many manufacturers or builders that make excellent pickups. One might like brand A but not brand B. The other will like brand B, but not brand A. Both players could have valid reasons why they favor one over the other.

In my arsenal of fourteen electrics I have Seymour Duncans, Kinmans, Wolfetones, Gibsons, Fralins, G&Ls, and StewMac's Golden Age. Seymour Duncan has a lot to choose from, and you would think that they would have at least something for everyone. For example: One of my Hamers came stock with SD P90s. Neck pup was their Hot P90/SP90-2n, and the bridge is their Custom P90/SP90-3b. For me, the bridge Custom P90 is awesome and sits well in my world. However, I did not like the neck pup's Hot P90. Replaced it with the SD Vintage P90/SP90-1n... Bingo!

Example 2: Another Hamer came stock with the same set of SDs like the other Hamer. Eight years ago, I wanted to try a set of P90s that are designed with hum reducing technology. I tried a set of the Fralin Hum-Cancelling Soapbars, and I just wasn't all that thrilled with them. Later that year, the rumors and reviews gassed me up to try a set of the the Kinman P90-Hx Zero- Hum... Oh my! Yet, on my old '71 SG Standard, after a few different brands when in and out through the cavities, the Holy Grails ended up being a set of Fralin Unbuckers built for RS Guitarworks

ya Sysco ive thought of the Duncan lil 59. this would go in with no surgery but i always that a old school Tele would look cool with a PAF Humbucker or Super D in it.

When i was a young guy i went to my cousins place cause we was gonna play music,in a garage of all places lol, well this guy shows up with a Fender Tele model id never seen. it was a beat up Original Telecaster Deluxe, somebody had takin the Fender humbuckers out and put in Gibson pickups of some sort. none of the screws that held the pup rings on were the same, wood screws , metal screws you name it but that guitar was prolly the best sounding guitar ive ever heard. Flat awesome.ive wanted a Telecaster Deluxe ever since

Now that you know what you are doing, you should get a cheapie and experiment! My birdseye tele will have Burstbucker 1 & 2

I have a friend with a Telecaster '72 Deluxe with two Fender humbuckers. It is not very tele like but it is an awesome guitar. He runs the local bar jam I go to every week. He can play any genre with anybody that shows up with that tele. He switches between the tele through a Hot Rod Deluxe and a Yamaha acoustic though a DI. It is amazing what I've heard him cover with that tele.

+1 on that... I have a 2006 MIM Tele '72 Deluxe replica.
I've modded it with good wiring and 500k pots, and left everything else stock.

It sounds awesome to my ear. These p'ups are not like the old ones with CUNIFE magnets.
They are more like normal hum buckers with a Fender bright sound in them.
So that characteristic is what attracted me as soon as I heard about the replica reissue.
You can get plenty of brightness out of these pickups, but they also have a great hum bucker
growl to them, just by turning the tone controls... what a concept!

I like a guitar that sounds unique, or at least unusual. So I'm perplexed by guys who spend
(not just too much but) way too much money pursuing the same old same old. '59 Les Paul,
yeah yeah... Maybe I'm interested in something else. I don't disagree... classic Les Pauls
do sound awesome. But so what? Gibson made only 1702 of those. The rest (tens of thousands
of guitars) are simply chasing something that will never exist for normal guys like me.

I never even think about it. I just play the ones I have. I own one: my '06 SG special with
'57 Classic and '57 Classic plus pickups... that chases the old 'woman tone.' (and nails it,
IMHO). The rest of my guitars are chasing something else... Which is alright with me.

And that hum bucker Tele can lead the pack, or play a supporting role... that hum bucker Tele is
versatile... which is one of the characteristics I really admire in any guitar. Fender did a radical thing
in the early '70s, trying to invade Gibson territory. It didn't work, but the legacy is the '72 Tele deluxe,
and the versatility she brings to the 21st century. Alongside her hard working sisters above.
