For years I have preferred French Roast coffee.

On a whim, I bought Italian Roast coffee.

Suddenly, my coffee world is up-ended!

French or Italian?

THIS is a REAL dilemma...far more serious than rosewood or maple.

I may actually prefer the Italian. Rome over Paris!?

It just got real!

Coffee is a personal journey. You like what you like.

My daily brew is Counter Culture Hologram. Its a dark-roast of Ethiopian and Guatamalan coffees, which I grind fresh each morning to an espresso grind and prepare in a drip with cole filtered water. One of life’s true, pure pleasures.

Chicory in coffee is an abomination. Chicory in coffee is almost enough reason not to go to NOLA. I was reduced to drinking Charbucks last time I was in NOLA. It was the only coffee I could find without chicory. Even the famous Cafe du Monde served this abomination. The beignets made up for the coffee though.

Its a SOuthern THing KB ;)

Perhaps if you had enjoyed a few more Hurricanes at Pat Obriens the evening prior the Chickory would make sense? :)

Yeah. I can’t do the chicory thing, either.

I have tried.

I admit to being a coffee snob. Like the recent discussion about acoustic guitars once you’ve experienced truly good coffee it is hard to go back to the regular stuff. My wife works for a coffee distributor that distributes from small boutique roasters. I have my pick of some of the best coffees in the world roasted to any specification I want. Chicory was from when coffee was scarce in France during the Napoleonic war. It made it’s way to New Orleans. During the civil war New Orleans was blockaded and coffee was very scarce so chicory became common to extend the limited supply. Ever since then coffee with chicory has been a thing in the south and New Orleans in particular. It is an abomination that never should have happened :)

true--

I dont think they use it France anymore--- hold out in the South--as I say acquired taste-- reminds me of Weekends in N.O.-- and youth and -- things I enjoyed-- but cant any longer--so -- I enjoy the coffee.....
