So...I dropped the hammer on that 61' SG and leave it to Guitar Center to dampen the excitement of a New Guitar Arrival.
First thing I notice, they just slapped a shipping sticker on the original box and shipped it. No double boxing.
Next, the box has been opened and re-sealed so I know the guitar is not "Brand New"
Then, when I get the case out of the box it's a standard tan with pink interior Gibson Case and NOT the Black Gibson Custom Shop Case it's supposed to be.
Good news is not worth much I don't think because they have no idea where the original case is and they say they can't order one from Gibson
because Gibson doesn't want Custom Shop Cases floating around fooling people I guess.
They are looking for the case in the warehouse where they shipped the guitar from. If they don't find it the guitar is going back for sure!
Also, I can pretty much tell this has been hanging on a wall in some Guitar Center. It had the plastic holder with the advertised price inside the case.
Sad thing is, I really like the guitar! It sounds fantastic and it has a very thin body with a nice almost "D" style neck. Not a big baseball bat, but not too thin either.
The fretboard is very dry though and needs some attention. Don't think I'll waste my time on that right now...
I have a huge 180 Day Return window so I'm going to play the damn thing until my surgery and may even keep it until I heal up and play it some more.
I have to have that Custom Shop Case though. It's a deal breaker for me even if it shouldn't be...
