Session 5
Ambassador of Strings & Wings
When I graduated from high school, I went to work for a local Chev/ Olds dealership. It was my first job, just getting started in life. Myself and another fellow my age both worked at what they called car jockey's. The pay was union rates, and we had cola every week on our pay cheques. The money was very good in the day. Benefits as well.
The owner of the dealership was awesome! treated us all well, and everybody that worked there was like family. At Christmas every employee went home with a turkey and a bottle of perfume for their wife or girlfriend. They were great days .
I was there for three years before moving on to my next job, but while i was there , I drove pretty much every car that was made in the early seventies. Central Chev was Canada's leading high performance Chev Dealer at the time.
I drove Vettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Firebirds, etc etc etc. etc. and the list goes on. Earl Ross Canadian Nascar Rookie of the year, used to bring his street vehicles when he was in town for warranty work. He had a Laguna S-3 with a 454 4 speed. It was awesome! and I did get to drive it,
My favorite car to drive overall was 1972 Chevelle SS 396 it had lots of pep, looks, and it had a comfortable ride..
