Ford vs Chevy

When I graduated from high school, I went to work for a local Chev/ Olds dealership. It was my first job, just getting started in life. Myself and another fellow my age both worked at what they called car jockey's. The pay was union rates, and we had cola every week on our pay cheques. The money was very good in the day. Benefits as well.

The owner of the dealership was awesome! treated us all well, and everybody that worked there was like family. At Christmas every employee went home with a turkey and a bottle of perfume for their wife or girlfriend. They were great days .

I was there for three years before moving on to my next job, but while i was there , I drove pretty much every car that was made in the early seventies. Central Chev was Canada's leading high performance Chev Dealer at the time.

I drove Vettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Firebirds, etc etc etc. etc. and the list goes on. Earl Ross Canadian Nascar Rookie of the year, used to bring his street vehicles when he was in town for warranty work. He had a Laguna S-3 with a 454 4 speed. It was awesome! and I did get to drive it,

My favorite car to drive overall was 1972 Chevelle SS 396 it had lots of pep, looks, and it had a comfortable ride..

For those of you who don't know who Earl Ross was. R.I.P I had seen Earl a few times at the dealership where I once worked. He also lived in a small village named Ailsa Craig, where i once camped just down the road from that town. He died at the early age some years back now. Had a very good rapport with people. And from what I understand with the American people down south. He will be missed. When I worked at the dealership, they had one of his Monte Carlos in the dealership showroom on display for 1 week.
I watched him race at the Delaware Speedway, in the town of Komoka, Ontario, Canada. The guy was a top notch professional racer..

To paraphrase the cammer article “Ford’s 427 CID SOHC V8 engine, otherwise known as the “Cammer.” When equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors, the legendary powerhouse generated a prodigious 657 horsepower. Even when a single four-barrel carburetor was employed, the engine could still generate 616 horsepower. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that this big, powerful engine often appears on lists of the top ten engines of all time.
