Rolled up newspaper damp is like being puppy trained. I kinda like that and makes me think of the fat chic at the shelter. A tap on the snoot and I never forget to wait until it's walk time.

Does your amp have a standby switch?

Some people are ok using their standby switch for short stretches.
While they might full shut down if they anticipate 45 minutes or more downtime between playing sessions.
While others may not think that sensible.

I do not have a standby on my most used amp. I shut down when I walk away, always.
If I’m staying in the room, I leave it running.
At rehearsal, I turn it on, and leave it on until we’re done for the night. We usually take one “break” that could be 15 to 45 minutes long...it stays on through that every time.

When I was with "The Travellers, " we practiced a six hour session every Friday and my amp was on the entire time...I was with them for 6 months...never changed tubes.
 
I have left my amps through the years on in standby for days at a time. No worry of burning down the house.
I work with this stuff (electricity / electronics) on a daily basis for the past 40+ years.
I am also one of those people who NEVER turn of the computer. It stays on 24/7.

The best way to turn on an amp? I hit the power switch and sooner or later I take it off stand by. I check connections, power to it from the wall, change the guitar cable and after a time of freaking out I realize the bastard is on standby by. I hit the switch and get blasted nearly to the wall because I had it up to full blast trying to get sound out of it. I feel like a complete idiot and say to anyone watching that I run this test when I have time. Stand by and room key cards have caused no end of problems and kept me on the other side way to often.

LOL!!! BURN BABY BURN!!!

I'm your "normal" noise freak...Each amp has the power cable coiled through a dual-path ferrite bead, both amps are running through a Tripp Lite TLP1208TEL power conditioner EFI/RFI scrubber, shielded cables, Noise Gate...
