Fishman Fluence Modern vs EMG 60/81

Today I will be picking up this set of Fishman pickups.
I have been back and forth about getting these to replace the EMG 60/81 set I have in my LTD.
The EMGs are ok, but depending on what amp I plug into, they can get harsh sounding and most of the time they seem to lack something that I can’t quite put my finger on.

GC has the Fishman set on clearance and I figure this would be a great opportunity to get them.

If I like them better than the EMGs by a good margin, I will also get a set for my Explorer which is also equipped with EMGs

If Fishman electric pups are anything like the stuff they provide for the acoustic crowd….. betting you’re gonna love them.

I’ve always associated them with acoustic gear.
They seem to have been making wave the last few years in the electric department.

I have tested some guitars at the store which were equipped with them. I remember liking some voicings and not others, but I don’t remember what set I played.

As always I over research everything and trying to get a good shootout video to compare these things. But with all the voicings it’s like watching a pick up shootout marathon especially when it’s Fishman Classics vs Moderns vs EMGs. Half way through I become tone deaf and can’t distinguish any difference.

Sometimes I tend to over research as well. I don’t like spending money on the next best thing to only find out it wasn’t. I try best as I can to get it right first try. Many times I do. Other times you might find it on eBay. Or it just sits and draws dust. And not just talking guitar gear here.

Ok fellas. They are installed with push/pull pot.
Originally I said I was going to put them in my LTD.
I put them in my Goth Explorer instead.
I already recorded the EMGs. Tomorrow I’ll record these things.
Video to come tomorrow.
I hope it was worth the effort.
STAY TUNED!!

Here is what you will hear.
1) my crappy rendition of Am I Evil just the beginning parts not the entire song. I also found out I dont play well after a long day at work. I picked that because it has a good mix of muted chords as well as chords ringing out, single notes going from low to high, and some harmonics.
2) I played the bridge EMG and I played both voicings of the bridge Fishman through my DSL40CR (@40w) and my 5150 (@50w)
3) Other than a noise gate to tame any hum from these high gain amps, no other pedal was in use.
4) The DSL40CR was mic'ed with a SM-57 and Audix in a freidman set up.
5) The 5150 is going through a 212cab loaded with T-75s mic'ed with a Sennheiser 609

I would like some honest opinions here.
Some things I'd like to know,
Which pups do you prefer? if either.
Which voicing do you like?
Is there much of a difference between voicings? or Fishman vs EMGs?
Again, my playing wasnt up to par, but I think you'll get the idea.
STAY TUNED!!! the show will begin shortly.

Sounding great man!
Fishman makes some really cool stuff. If you are on the fence with the moderns, try putting the neck pickup in the bridge. I found it to have a good mix of the Emg bite and fishman saturation.
Unfortunately putting the bridge pickup in the neck doesn’t sound great, but not an issue if you are mostly a bridge riffer like myself

This is the Steph Carpenter set, which has a modern neck pickup that I tried in the bridge
