First time I’ve tried this...Sabbath content...P90 content...

Bummer...it’s working on my iPad. I have no idea about these user posted video files...just know that they can’t be too long/large file size.
I switched over to the PC's Chrome browser and I was able to access the video...

OH HELL YEAH... :dood::dood::dood::dood:

TTR or the other site might have some Forcefields or Site blocker measures that will block my link, but here is one place the build can ALMOST be seen.

HAHA Bastard, I got carried away at Iommi and Sabbath etc that I forgot you said P90...
Are these Stock Gib P90's like in my Classic or what?
Yep....my SG P90 Standard is as it was from the Gibson factory box. I’ve never had the urge to change anything, other than “top wrapping” the strings. It even has a circuit board(my only one), and baked maple fretboard.

Sounds great, Don - excellent playing too, you got exactly where you wanted to go. No f'kin around with that sound...

I really love those 2016 standard P90s, I really regret not buying the Cherry one that was available new locally. Yours, in black, is super cool.

MY Classic has the PCB too. Funny thing is IIRC,,,,,,,,,,, Classic SG's came with the little white knob tuners. When I got mine from the seller, it has the normal Keystone tuners on it. My original 1987 SG 3 knob had some wonky Keystones so, I bought a set of white knob Klusons and put them on the Classic and Swapped the Keystones onto my 3 knob.

One of my favorite Black Sabbath riffs and sounding real good in that track too.
Thanks!
Definitely nailed the early sabbath tone with that p90! and Lou Moritz is one of my friends on facebook. watched the whole process of him building that axe for the great iommi!
Thanks!
I remember Lou’s build threads fondly!

Sounds great.

I was able to coax some nice sounds out of the Special this weekend. One thing I realized is that the guitars action was too low from the factory, so I raised it up a bit and adjusted the pickup heights. I tried it through a couple different amps and with a couple different dirt boxes and generally was very pleased with what I am able to get out of it.

Results?

1. High gain is not your friend with P-90's. Aside from the noise they get a bit fizzy in the high end and loose in the low end. This has always been a gripe of mine with them, and I guess it really doesn't matter because I have other guitars that excel with gobs of gain.

2. With medium gain, like in the clip here, they really do come to life and can be quite expressive. I realize with the action too low on the guitar it was making me play with an extremely light touch and when I raised it up a bit I was able to dig in more and that really brings the best out of the pickups. This is where I will live with this guitar. My favorite sounds so far have been the Mark 5 in Crunch mode with the gain at about noon and mid/boost at about 2:00 and through my Princeton with, wait for it, a DS-1 with the gain around 1 or 2. Come to think if it, the best overall sound has been with the DS-1: I can roll back the volume to slightly overdriven or open it up to full '70's style crunch with everything in between. It has a nice "feel' through that setup as well.

3. They are only OK with a clean amp. I'd hoped they would have a bit more shimmer and sparkle into a clean amp but I'll be sticking with the Firebirds for pure cleans. Where they do sound nice going clean is with a pushed sound, just a touch of OD but dialed back so you only get the first hints of hair with the volume wide open and smacking the strings really hard. Like that I was getting great piano-like punch and bloom from the wound strings.

3. I definitely prefer the sound of the neck pickup. You can do 90% of what the guitar is good at with the neck pickup alone, or the middle position. I found myself only switching to the bridge when I really needed to cut through while using a phaser or delay.

So, yeah, after tweaking the setup and trying out some different rig configurations I am loving both the guitar and the sound of the P-90's. Nope, they are not going to displace any of my humbuckers, but it's nice to have a very different sound than anything else that I own.
