First Proper Amp

Yeah Buddy, Lots of Sunn Love here. One of my first Amps was a Sunn I stupidly let a friend "take to a tech" to see about fixing.

It never reappeared and I was told the guy said it wasn't worth fixing.
Rest easy, it was not a tube amp.

My first 2 amps were a Sunn Studio Lead and a Peavey

HAd the same TNT Peavey for a time.....great amp...was too young and stupid to realize it then
 
I can't remember who I sold the TNT to, But to lose the Sunn still irks me. Worst part is the guy who took my amp to whomever is my NOW blind friend who I reattached his DOT head stock on and fix his screw ups. Now I almost wish I made him pay me something cuz it never returned to me.

TBH, I think he should have paid you for it. He took it to his guy, and it never reappeared... That, in my book, makes him responsible. I know that sometimes you gotta go easy because he's your friend, but if he had an ounce of self respect, he would have at least tried to get it back for you, or offer to pay for it.
I guarantee the "tech" fixed it and either flipped it or is still in possession of it.
I've been screwed over so many times because I've previously been seen as a "soft touch", but I'm now very choosy on who gets to even touch my instruments and amps...

Aussie made Vadis 601 amp. Good for 40 or 50 watts. These things came stock with xf2 Mullard EL34's, Mullard GZ34 rectifier tube, tube driven r/c coupled reverb (no transformer), tube oscillator tremelo & 4x12" alnico rola speakers. Wish I'd never sold it, have been looking to find another decent one for a few years. Cheers

Been in the shop twice. It is on its third speaker. A Pyle driver with a heavy ass magnet. It does sound good overall for being old. That Suzuki might be nice. I had a Fender second acoustic. MIJ model F30 or F35? I should have never traded my Japan acoustic. At least you still got yours.

Alex, yeah that was almost 20 years ago. I almost always come out worse in the end when it comes to deals like this. BUT, I also was told by my friend since he has no kids, no wife and no musical relatives that he said he should leave all his musical gear to me in his Will.

If that happens, I definitely think that would far surpass bringing us square in trade.

Then my second one, because that Bassman wasn't loud enough.

A Traynor Super Custom Special YBA-3A. Busted half the 10" in the big cab.

I then built two huge cabs, with these JBL 15" with chrome dome. The Bee's Knees, they looked bad ass. Busted both of them too if I remember.

My first amp was an Ampeg Jet. Probably got in 6th or 7th grade.
Say 67 or 68. It was used so it was most likely a mid 60's one. My folks bought if off my guitar teacher.
Kind of wish I still had it. Last I saw of it was just the chassis in Pops garage in the early 80's.
Most likely got trashed or ended up in a yard sale one of the many times Pops moved.
 
Now that we are speaking about amps, cabinets and speakers, I may be building a couple new 2x12 cabs and will be needing some good plywood for this. I feel somewhat stupid as someone who works with wood every day, I feel embarrassed to not know what the heck Baltic Birch is compared to regular old birch is from Home Depot is.

Anyone know and where to get it just let me know.

Also, from other places I've read, Baltic Birch has more plies, about 13, compared with other birch plywood, about 7. Baltic birch plywood also uses birch for all the plies. Some non-baltic birch plywood may use cheaper woods for the inner plies, with birch only on the exterior plies.
