A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT-----
I fell for the hype-- (o.k. there is no hype) -- but 169.00 for a HOLLOW BODY (all be it thinline) with a DOG EAR-- JAZZ GUITAR.....was very alluring --
I like the style-- and the rich tones-- Ive owned Ibanez --I think
@Ghostwolf has now???
and a BIG ol 50's era Harmony that
@Hackmaster and I swopped junk rubbing duties with---
so -- I HAD a credit at Amazon --- and I got this thing to the door for 129.00
-- HOW BAD COULD IT BE?!?!?!?!?!
stem to stern-- its good-- the inlays on the headstock are nice -- the nck (not sure I think maple with some "roewood-ish fretboard"
inlays are -- well HUGE-- but nice--
body is light-- finish is nice --
I have found only one "paint drip/booger" on the low E area of the side of the headstock -=-
fret ends are NICELY finished-- though the FRETS them selves could use a going over with some steel wool/polished--but are functional as is--
Tuners-- -leave a little to be desired but work
the HIGH E string BROKE while I was trying to tune it-- so it has FRESH D'addario 10's
bridge-- again not stellar-- but WORKS and
thats really the EXTENT of the negatives--
HERES ONE FOR YA
@Drumoid --- IT INTONATES 100% outta the BOX!!!!! -- yep--
finish and burst are well done (I got the next to loast of this color -- red is all that is left I think (there was a Natural as well)
and it smells like cheap plywood furniture from walmart---------
UPS-
tone is great (rich and full through the Mesa)
playability excellent--- low decent action good feel
familiar neck medium deep really but narrow-- easy playing--
the hum-- from a P90 through a HOLLOW guitar is STUPIDLY QUIET!!! its QUIETER than several SOLID body guitars I own through the same amp-- same settings--
output jack seems well installed and solid--
pots roll well and have no scratch--
IMHO -- TOTALLY worth 129.00 --- totally--
Will it REPLACE my Gibsons??? if I could ONLY OWN 1 GUITAR would the GROTE be it???? no
is it AMAZING AND WONDERFUL??? no
its a good guitar -- for the $
I LIKE the genre and style but the FAT thick Jazz BOX bodies always put me off (like acoustics -- dont like fat bottoms)
Tuners and a better bridge would be HUGE upgrades -- (it still wouldnt replace my Les Paul Recording guitar)
but-- its FUN to play -- it makes GREAT tones and -- really is 100% FUNCTIONAL as is --
no MAJOR surgeries needed
IF you want a P90 "JAZZ" gutiar that is CHEAP AS DIRT ---- do it
this is on par with
The Loar LH-301T-VS Archtop Guitar
AND one of these -- which I also played at GC last week -- as a matter of fact they Feel VERY VERY similar
Which both are in the 500-650.00 range --- and honestly they were VERY VERY close
