finger tip issues?

Callouses never bother me, my main enemy is winter. For most of my adult working life as a carpenter, I endure splits in my fingertips and hands from freezing temps, snow, ice and moisture robbing building materials such as drywall mud, thinset, etc. It always feels like 3 months of razor blades poking em and despite making me sound like a wimp, sometimes the pain even makes tying shoes undesirable to attempt.

Tony Iommi's Guitar String Gauges | Stringjoy

Iommi has two main guitars for D# and C# tunings, and he has a custom set on each:

D# Standard: .008 – .008 – .011 – .018w – .024 – .032

C# Standard: .009 – .010 – .012 – .020w – .032 – .042

This is why I've never believed you need thicker strings for a heavier sound. Then I again, I ain't him!! (I wish I had his talent and gear, then money)
