Fiddle anyone?

It's really dificult instrument. You need practice a couple of years before you start playing in tune because it has no frets.

Listening to this.... two things came to mind.

(1) Coworker once asked me..... since he knew I played guitar and ought to know.... what the difference is between a fiddle and a violin. Told him only difference is who’s playing it.

(2) Had a young lady that occasionally played violin when I played on the churches worship team. She had a pickup on the violin.... which makes sense..... that she plugged into a Boss GT10 before sending signal to the board. That, I thought, was awesome.

I haven't played mine in quite a while. The last time I played it, my wife asked if I actually knew how to play it because she saw the cases always lying around. I started playing a reel, and said the Rev. Jim line, "Gee, I must have taken lessons." I've always wanted an electric violin. Maybe I should remedy that one of these days. I unfortunately was put off of violin, having started when I was seven, and giving up when I was fifteen. I wanted to learn Gypsy, Irish, Rock, anything but classical. I think the constant arguing with teachers put me off of actually learning proper theory. All they had to do was tell me "that the notes were the same, and to change the style was to just do this..." And give me an occasional example. But, I didn't know that at the time.

I did play mandolin in a Celtic punk band for a couple of years, so I'm sure that I can still play some fun stuff on the violin. They're tuned the same.

I wish I could play like Lucy Wilkins. Her solo in "Out of Blue" is insane.
