To understand Fender classic custom colors we gotta know what those colors were (are) based on. They're automobile colors. Cars in the USA had more social influence than just about anything in the 50s and 60s, maybe the biggest part of the "Americana" culture.
Back then Fender's only house paints were Sunburst, Blonde and some Red. All other colors originated directly from the car companies of the time.
