Fender Jazz Bass-- a brief history

HAHA I just watched the ES 335 one of these this morning. Just before picking up my new Jazz Bass at UPS

This was my original Squier VM Jazz 77. My new one looks almost the same, but it doesn't have the older Duncan Designed pups

mines a beast....60's Custom Shop fender pups, it's getting at my P bass...it's a war every week for the spot on recording,

BFT, how much hum and background noise do you get from your Jazz pups as you adjust volume up and/or brighten your tone knob?

This one seems to do so more than my P bass with Duncan Designed P pups

The pickups are dead quiet..if i get the gain up on the Ampeg still pretty quiet. I plug strait into amp no pedals. In recording looking at the level..no movement

though Id like to find another "beater Jazz" to USE more -- as I dont play this one as much as I would LIKE TO because well I dont want to lose any of the signatures........

Moved EQ a hair for the jazz from usual P bass settings..it can overdrive real nice & has a snarl of aggressiveness in it..Geddy is such a great jazz player...and all kinds of other stuff at the same time..come to appeciate how he & Alex can cover so much..He is bass, part lead & thump & really a riffer on that Jazz.. I love when a bass player get after or right at a guitar player. Lead bass..

I really like the PJ combination. They sound great together and very different if you only use one.

Either way, his playing is flat out rockin.

cool thread... I have only one bass left:
my favorite Warmoth fretless Jazz.

It's got some sounds I could never get with a fretted bass,
which is what I played since 1972.

So out of necessity, I sold my vintage bass and my Squier rebuild,
and kept this one, I named her Luretta, after a song by Townes
Van Zandt.
