Here's a couple of sketches that show how I'm using a compound depth slot profile when dealing with lateral misalignment on warranty guitars where time is limited.

My "happy setting" is +.004" above string gauge for all guitars that I work on, buy sometimes I've had to go as far as +.008" over string gauge when the lateral misalignment is really bad.
