Favourite OD to goose your favourite amp?

Just as the title says, to give your amp a bit more (in whichever way you like your more, and whichever style of amp you have...) - what's your OD of choice?

I've tried loads, but only been happy with maybe 4 (maybe the last 3 are a continuation of a theme, so pretty close?):

If I had to choose 1 then maybe the last because it suits the low watt plexi style amps that I like, just takes the amp into the best territory while keeping volumes that won't upset the wife too much. Perhaps the Barber is equally as good.

If you had to choose 1 OD (or more) to goose your amp what would it be?

My favorite amp is my Mark 5. After trying out about a dozen different OD’s at all price points the absolute best is the Boss BD-2W.

We mentioned this on another thread: when you've tried loads and loads of boutiques, spent silly amounts of money, the classics seem to do the job better. The pedals I mentioned are all pretty cheap ones based closely on classics (or the D+ is just a basic, cheap, classic pedal). SD1s and DS1s are great pedals.

My favorite OD is a Fulltone GT500.
The grey one.
It will make lesser amps sing with glorious sustain and harmonics that just jump out at you.

However it's completely unnecessary with my favorite amp, a Mesa Rectoverb 25.
The amp that I've never put a pedal thru, as it's just not needed.
The amp knobs do it all for me.

It does seem to be the case that I always end up going back to the classics. The BD-2W is 50% more expensive then the standard Blues Driver, but it's definitely worth it IMO as it has a lot more clarity and the Custom mode offers a lot of new sounds. A lot of times I like to use it in front of the Mesa just for the buffer. Really, I think every guitar needs a buffer between it and the amp for best sound (and I am convinced all the "boutique" builders sell True Bypass as a "feature" because they either can't or won't, due to cost, built a proper buffer for their pedals) and I use it with the gain completely off and as just the buffer or completely clean boost for solos. It's one heck of a pedal for the money.

really down to just making clean at a level volume to crunch,,when i back down to 5 for chords..or just some pop or saturation for leads..most my pedals are set with no or minimal gain..the amps are too good to corrupt it in a way..maybe the blessing of running everything off the guitar knobs vs stomping all day..have 4-5 dif degrees of clean to lead all set on guitar...my amps..once set..very rarely move the knobs...so free playing live not married to the board starring down..get to roam

fender..RAT-Klon Cl..

Favoritist'sssssss, in order, from left to right:

#1
Tim: Plays nice with any amp. Very versatile. Plenty of gain. So transparent, that it can be set up as a "clean" boost. Paul Cochrane doesn't make the Tim anymore. But he still makes the Timmy. The main differences is that the Timmy does not have the boost circuit and the passive effects loop of the Tim

#2
Rangemaster: Nothing can goose an already cranked amp like a great treble booster.

#3
Zendrive: Dare I say it: "Dumble-esq" sweet tones and overdrive. Works exceptionally well with blackface style amps.

#4
Direct Drive (v3): Very versatile. Any amp. Lots of gain. I like this even better than the excellent Fulltone OCDs (V1.3 and v1.4) that I used to have.

Bad Monkeys are awesome... :dood:
I have a pair of them to send to you. I think Boo and Too would enjoy some warm California weather for a change...

In reality, I have been using the TC Electronics MojoMojo for the last couple of years. Seems to do what is needed for an overdrive. Now this morning I just ordered an EHX Soul Food that should arrive on Monday provided it doesn't leave Indiana, ship to Florida and back to Indiana before arriving in Minnesota. I am really excited to try this one. I was researching Klon clones and it seems to do a pretty reasonable job plus they are cheap. I get plenty of drive out of my 2203, but I think this could just give me that little extra to take it over the top when the other blokes are maxed out on 10. Report next Monday.
