Favorite guitar mods and why

I'm not knocking yours either. :)

I just like the (excessive?) security of my system. Crazy cats running amok and all.

YO WAV! Where's that  smiley man! :p

(I'm just having fun now)
Mine's also been endorsed for decades by some random dude named Steve,

Apparently that "Wizard" neck is quite the thing. i notice that both Vai and Strauss speak of it often.

My Schecter has a compound radius board and for some reason, i can play it faster and more cleanly than any other guitar i have....

I also found some generic neoprene rubber washers that are smaller than the typical fender ones.
They work well on the both ends except, like on the SG, where the button is facing you.

The only thing I do as soon as I get a guitar is secure the strap.
Either Schaller strap thingies or the big washer method.
And a setup of course.

All my Gibsons have non locking tuners and I have never had
tuning stability problems even though I play with a heavy touch.

The PRS and Music Man guitars came with locking tuners.
They facilitate much more friendly string changes, but I
see no advantage in tuning stability over the Gibsons.

My fav initial mods when I get a new or used guitar is looking at the electronics:
Would this guitar benefit me with vintage-style wiring?
Are the cap values to my liking when listening to the guitar?
Can the pots be improved?
Wiring cleanup?

And another mod would be personalized truss rod covers. It's an easy, cheap, non invasive way to way to make my guitar more unique in my own little world.

I don't like strap locks, but I do move around a bit. I used to use Grolsch or Fender washers, but when I got a 2014 Gibson with oversized buttons I realized that's enough. Gotoh makes 'em and they go on all my stage guitars.

Pickups. Lately Gibson has gone down a rabbit hole. Their guitars either come with "Hot" pickups for the kids, or "PAF style" pickups for the geezers. The hot pickups tend to be too generic sounding to me, and the "PAF styles" were obviously made by and for people who never had a set of actual PAFs. They tend to be very bright and thin. I pull Gibsons pickups and put an appropriate set in. My Firebird has Chris Kleins, my LP has SD "Whole Lotta Humbuckers", my SG has a set of SD "Saturday Night Specials" which are absolutely perfect in that guitar.

If I have any doubts about the guitar or setup, I'll pay for a proper one. If a guitar doesn't stay in tune I get a pro to cut me a new nut. I will gladly get a Crown and Polish if needed (post 2012 Gibsons don't seem to need them so much, but I'd rather have a guitar that plays easy if there's any doubt.).

50s wiring for sure, always. 500k pots on Gibbys no matter what.

P.
