Yep. Stage setup. Some people use fake cabs, some set up castles... it's all just part of the stage setup. Who cares if they are fake cabs or a fake castle?

The first legit concert I ever went to was Moody Blues at Merriwether. Then, a few years later, Dio at the Capital Center. Neither struck me as over the top loud. Now, Slayer at the Warner Theater was drastically louder.

If there were no tube amps to profile (or model, sample etc.),
What would profilers be doing?
Isn't a profile / sample or a model made from: somebody playing guitar through a tube amp?
yes.
A profile is an imitation, a robotic mimic of the original.

And don't forget that Valve State amps too depend on tube for the preamp.
Many of these solid state amps still use tubes for the preamp, and are actually hybrid amps....not just solid state amps.

So at least in those respects I don't think tube amps are necessarily extinct obsolete or useless.

But rather that the profiler is trying to sound like a tube amp as best it can. It was made for the purpose of imitation.
 
HAHA, and I saw the Newsboys at the Creation Festival, ( Outdoor venue 2x in Western PA) 1x in Hershey Park

I remember how loud it FELT to hear Motorhead at Merriweather. The air moving from the bank of speakers in front of sis and me made it FEEL almost like our forearms were paralyzed and barely able to move. The pulsing of the double bass drum and bass just hit like a mack truck.

No argument there...I think the days of people wowed by the fakeness are dwindling. Personally, I'd rather just have a good amp and a couple cabs...amp loud enough to use as a rear monitor...everything mic'd along with a front monitor with the rest of the band in it...but I've been in this biz long enough to understand that if the record label wants fake amps then that's what is going to happen.

Some Bands put amps/speakers in Washing Machines and Dryers too.

If I recall correctly, this started as a gag between Gaddy and Alex. Geddy made fun of Alex for the amount of gear that he brought along - multiple guitars, huge stacks of amps, etc. Geddy played most of his music with one bass guitar, a keyboard, and a pedal board. One of them decided Geddy's side of the stage looked too empty, so they put some appliances out there. As a joke and it stuck.
When I saw them on the Vapor Trails tour they had a roadie feeding coins to a coin-operated dryer from a laundromat. Towards the end of the show they pulled some t-shirts out and tossed them to the crowd fresh from the dryer.

Hell yeah, I grew up walking distance to the place. Back in the day tickets for the lawn were so cheap that sometimes my buddies and I would go see whoever was playing that night just because we were bored. Witnessed some surprising acts that way, like the Thompson Twins and Debbie Gibson (which we got kicked out of, believe it or not), and some great ones like Elvis Costello and The Alarm.
