Omg. I do not like EV’s , I’ll explain.
So I had a flight , we picked the mystery vehicle. No mystery, EV. They call it a Mustang 4x, not even close.
The car is ok, the problem is charging it.
I drove from the airport to my daughter’s house. I then went to my destination.
The rental company told me it needs to charged to 88% when I return it. It was at 88% when I picked it up.
So the next day , I searched the net for a local charging station there was 1.
I went there and finally figured out it doesn’t need the cumbersome app to pay.
There are 2 stations and a sign is posted that said 4 hr. Parking. Code enforced.
Guess what, that hunk of junk was not fully charged in 4 hrs. So I took it to the house and brought it back for another charging session.
5 hrs. more of charging got me 100%
Next day, I drive to the airport. It was at about 83%.
I will never ever get another EV
There are quick charging stations, (1 hour charging) they require 3X 100 amp panels. (according to the Tesla instructions)
That's 3X more power than any average house has installed.
Not that I dislike the idea of electric vehicles.............being an electrician................I realize there are a few kinks in the system.
For one, the power grid we have can't possibly deliver enough power to quick charge a nation full of electric cars.
It would have to be tripled in size and capacity.
Second, where the power comes from - burning of fossil fuels - nuclear power plants ...
neither of which is environmentally responsible.
Unlike Canada, we do not have substantial hydroelectric generation....which is far more practical and responsible.
Third, between the power plant and the vehicle.......63% of the power generated, is being lost in transmission.
The power grid we have is 37% efficient.
This, according to the California Public Utilities Commission.
We will need to build 1.5 new power plants per year, just to keep pace with the current growth of demand.
Considering all the above factors, (remember I am an electrician) the 100% electric future "plan," is substantially flawed.
It's environmentally flawed....
It's capacity deficient flawed.....
And, the people who created this plan assumed that electricity was 100% efficient, which it's not (even close to).
I am sorry to remind you, this "plan" falls flat on it's face....there's no way for it to work.
Yes....reality is a bitch.
