EVH Tribute

Update:

4 more coats of black went on last evening as it is supposed to be rainy and wet all weekend here in Ontario so spraying paint will be out of the question.

Seems I might regret not grain filling as it isn't filling well from the paint alone. I didn't have this issue last time I did this but maybe the grain is more open on this body. I think I will have to live with it as it is now as it is undesirable to have too thick of a coat of black.

My sons and I will start work this weekend on the taping to get ready to apply the white coats. My original build used Duplicolor Wimbledon White as that is what most guys on the build forum (Halen.com) were using at the time. I was not entirely pleased with it as it turned out more cream coloured than I would have liked. I will be using a "whiter" shade (of Pale) this time.

Incidentally, the forum (Halen.com) was shutdown several years ago and all of the great member build threads were lost, including mine. It was really too bad as there was an absolute :poo: ton of information on all of the EVH guitar versions from the beginning in the 70's to present day. I do not know the reason why it was shut down but one can't help but wonder if it was legal action from EVH himself or if FMIC might have had something to do with it.

Update: Body was sanded back to bare wood on the front and back. It has been grain filled with Stew-Mac ash filler and restained a golden oak colour to give the appearance of aged wood where the relicing will reveal the bare wood. After several tests using various products that were locally available to ensure compatibility with the Duplicolor paint, I have now sealed the body with Rustoleum semi-gloss clear lacquer. I got a little overzealous with the coats so there is a bit of a sag on the front that will have to be sanded out and recoated. Otherwise I am hoping this will be the ticket!
Pics to follow when I get home.

Progress is slow on this but it is moving along again. In the last installment of this saga we were awaiting the application of the white(ish) coats of paint. I am happy to report that the Duplicolor Cloud White has been applied!
Most folks have used Wimbledon White in the past and I did on my last build but I find it to be too cream coloured for my liking. Cloud white is not pure white but not cream either.
