EVH DEAD of CANCER Today RIP ED

RIP. He was a monster talent.

But...some of you really didn't see this coming? He'd had throat cancer for quite some time now, had surgery for it, and kept on smoking. Wish I could say I'm surprised but honestly not at all.

I think I ignored it. I read about his progress, but I really try not to think about it. I have PTSD and get easily depressed.

I see 4-5 people a month - in my high school graduating class - many younger than me...dying off. It really makes you think.

The purpose of life is right now...today...

Admittedly, I've only listened to a handful of VH songs. I just couldn't get past DLR'S voice. I felt like EVH was a monster talent, but he never "moved" me like Gary Moore or Randy Rhoads...Nonetheless, he was an incredible musician and showman...

Well, Robert. We all know that we all gravitated to the players and music that suited our tastes. Much like cars, food, women, places to live, Jobs etc. Everyone is not expected to like all the same things. Thank God for that.

In my Rock n Roll infancy, it was EVH who likely was like my equivalent to the first hit of crack cocaine to a future addict. I heard that first Siren sound of Runnin with the Devil and had to find out WHAT WAS THAT?

After that it was VH1 Vh2, and Women and Children First that fed me my VH drug.

I mean Eddie blew my 13-14 year old mind in 1977/78

Just for you...

Good observations. I take nothing away from EVH, just really never followed VH. I think i was just too consumed by Black Sabbath at the time (77-79) to really notice anybody else.

Nothing wrong with that, I got lucky in that my sparks such as Deep Purple, VH, Ted, Styx, Zep, all led to a huge variety of many diverse offerings from many bands before and after them.

AND this is what makes the world great!!!! HUMOR and CREATIVITY. Someone actually made this page at that link and even that Gball knew about it..

It was a thing you could download for Windoze XP, and haven’t seen it in several years. Thanks for posting it again.

Although not a big EVH fan, I did really like early Van Halen. David’s vocals and Michael’s harmonies were awesome. Many of the songs were quite funny, and I did wonder what teacher was gonna look like this year.

It’s too bad he died so young, but he didn’t do himself any favors. It’s a shame.

My attraction to VH1 was so profound, I used to sneak my 1 button Cassette tape recorder/player in to class in the 8th grade and inserted one of those white bulbous ear phones into my ear as I took standardized tests they gave us every few years.

I can't even imagine my results. Woah oh woah, Jamie's Cryin' HAHA 1602020100793.png

Just the other day my fiancee was asking me how Neil Peart died. Now today it's Eddie. Rush and VH really charged me up.

I must say, Those 2 bands are like 2 of the 4 corners of the foundation of my musical building blocks that came together around '77-'80. As I already mentioned Deep Purple was likely number 1 because the Purple hit me as I sat in the barber chair at 8-9 years old and Smoke on the Water caught my ear as he cut and it played on his little radio. Also, 1973 piqued my musical interest with an Album of cover songs on a greatest hits called Autumn '73, But, by 1976, I would hear of stuff like the Beatles, BTO, Grand Funk, Elton John etc. Then R n R exploded for me when VH and RUSH 2112 entered my world like I said, around 1977-80. Though not 2112, The mastery of their instruments and the skill at which they played them is evident in that we still talk about and listen to certain bands even decades after they hit it big. They all made me aspire to play.

Here's a little of my favorite Alex Geddy and Neil song for you, Eddie

Oh Yeah, I just had a memory where I can say, " Only ME"

I still remember hearing a cool VH song called You Really Got Me. Then a few years later, I was listening to 98 Rock ( Gball and DonO) may recognize that one, Then this same song came on, and it really sounded " Off. "

I thought it had to be a spoof.
