Epiphone EB-0 bridge replacement

Thinking of replacing the bridge on my (now technically my wife’s, but I’m really the only one playing it) Epiphone EB-0 bass. The stock bridge is ok I guess, but the saddles are abit close to the string anchors so the silk on the strings end up on the saddles of the E and A strings, and the whole thing basically comes apart when strings are taken off...

I’m looking at a Hipshot Supertone three-point Gibson/Epi replacement. Anyone here with any experience with this one?
 
Nope --looks nice--- the hole placements may be different in the Epi and the Gibbo part--- I would want to make sure before ordering.

It is supposed to fit the Epi. They even provide screws to fit both Epi and Gibbo EBs.

Haha! I bought it dirt cheap, but with a new bridge, a set of new flatwounds and the Artec pickup in it, I’ve spent the same amount on upgrades.:D

I still need a proper bass amp, though...
 
Home practice......
I recommend either a Hartke B600 (or similar "b" series Hartke)
OR the Fender RUMBLE is VERY nice sounding for its price point --I tried the Acoustic B10 and several other (including Marshall) small 10-50 watt amps --- the RUMBLE 25 is a VERY competent home practice Boomer that wont PISS OFF the neighbors. THe Hartke is also similar --- rugged and great tone-- I found the others (Like the Vox dual 5" speaker bass amp) to be GREAT for VERY low volume--- but if you want to FEEL some bass----without the cops hitting you with MACE---

Fender Rumble 25 or its bigger sister.

rich deep tone --- Contour button....distortion button (you can do JEthro Tull and no pedals to buy) and they are CHEAP! Of course you have Gibson amps ---they may not get along BUWAHAHAHAH
 
FYI I was just running my PEavey Unity bass through its nightly practice ---through the Rumble--- love it
 
I got the Hipshot Supertone bridge today. Installation was a breeze, but I had to shorten the screw adjusting the saddle of the E-string in order to intonate it properly. It only took a minute with a file, and now intonation is spot on. It looks nice enough, and the saddles stay in place if the strings are taken off (which I suppose they hardly ever will be...).

There is a cheap alternative to the installation of the supertone. Look what i did with the 3-point bridges of one of my EB-3s and my son's EB-0:

here the illustration of the sound problem - flexure along the long edge of the ground plate:

And here my workaround - intonation corrected by the 2 nuts and sound like the supertone (which i still like, but after having bought four supertones i need something cheaper for the lesser used basses), both mods as easy as the installation of the Hipshot:

Forgive my ignorance, but why does adding the extra string ball change intonation? Does the length of the string behind the nut and saddles change how the string intonates?
 
The length of the strings behind the saddle will indeed not affect intonation. But the part of the string where the central wire is twisted to hold the ballend will do: if it reaches across the saddle it will make proper intonation adjustment impossible.

Aha, that’s what I thought you meant. Makes sense. I’m pretty close with the low E on the EB-0, so adding a ball (or something similar) might be a good safety measure.
 
That looks like a nice bridge

The Gibson basses had Babicz bridges in 2015, those were great. The stock three-point is not great
 
But the 3-pt is acceptable, and there are easy workarounds for its disadvantages.
IMO it is better than the typical simplistic Fender bridges and most of the other stuff that was in use during its introduction in the 60s and early 70s.
And it was a big step ahead compared to the adjustable evertilt-bridge and its nearly unadjustable predecessor.
