Your Johnson and thin, sharp metal tape is probably a bad idea, I am thinking!

UPDATE - about a year and a half ago I traded this guitar away to get my hands on a USA made Tele. Try as I might, I just can’t seem to find any love for Telecasters and the Tele has since moved on.
The guy involved in the Tele trade posted this guitar for sale as he recently got a sponsorship deal with Godin and is moving out some of his guitars.
I contacted him and picked this guitar up again so it is back home where it belongs!

Late to the game just looked at your photos of the maple top it's a Flitch-Mactch Gibson did that on the good Les Paul's made in 1958-1960
