End of an Era: Trading Musician Seattle Closes

In the Seattle area, the most prominent independent music store was the Trading Musician in the U-District. They have decided to close the doors this month, I unfortunately just found out.

They have been a pillar of the music scene in the PNW for decades. The owner decided it was time for her to retire and failed to find someone else to carry the torch for the next generation. They sold their last instrument just a few weeks ago. Patrons of the store have been artists such as band members of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Guns & Roses, but other big names such as Billy Gibbons providing an inpromptu guitar lesson, Macklemore snagging gear this last month, and other famous artists. Their crew was comprised entirely of real musicians, often taking some time off for local tours and returning to a job saved for them.

Goodbye Trading Musician, you will be missed.

An unfortunate reality in today's world.

Sad, but true.

More and more, I try to use local stores and merchants for things.

We don’t have a lot of businesses here, but we have a saying when buying: “keep it on the mountain”. Meaning buy local.
