Eminence Swamp Thang vs Celestion Gold

I’ve been using the Celestion Gold for… a fairly long time now. I’m not sure it’s the best match for me and the Mesa Boogie Fillmore 25 though. Since the EQ bleeds into one another I find myself wanting to increase the bass for its effect on the lower mids, but then it becomes to bassy.

I’m also not a fan of the “British” sound. Not sure the Swamp Thang will fix this, but there is a used one for $90.

Any opinions?

I have used a couple swamp thangs for years in an old Randall cab. They are meaty. I wouldn't say they are a well rounded type of speaker. You will either love it or hate it generally. It is definitely a bassier type speaker, I paired mine with 2 Texas heats.
It may work out well for you.
If not, hit me up I've got a couple G12 T-75's just sitting here in the garage doing nothing.

I'm a fan of both Gold's and Mesa Fillmore's. But...not sure that's a match made in heaven for me - I feel like the Mesa wants a tighter low end than the Gold has...something faster and a bit more immediate sounding in the midrange.

That being said, I've had very poor luck personally with Eminence speakers. They have a "house sound" that doesn't do it for me.

If it were me, I'd give Headache's G12 T-75's a whirl. I think they would pair really well with a Fillmore.

Well... Apparently someone else read this post and I ended up mailing them both to him today lol.
So I no longer have 2 T-75s. Sitting on the floor of my garage.... They're on a truck headed to Hoboken! Ha ha ha ha

That’s exactly what I think as well. The Swamp Thang is in there now, and it sounds pretty good. I won’t get to play it at gig volume until next week though.

Thanks, I appreciate it! They’d probably have been cheaper to buy over here though, with shipping and delivery import fees added :)

One of the few pieces of gear left,, Marshall small cab--PV 5150 & Swampers.. its it the clearest tightest cab ever had. It was put together for the Triple Rec.. way more focused projection than any 1960 cab ever owned. Swampt avt cab opt.jpg
