Eminence Prototype Speaker???

I thought his was interesting...I emailed Eminence, but nothing back from them yet.

75 Watts, 12", 8 Ω 38 ounce magnet

Thoughts???

Considering it for an open back Marshall 50 watt solid state as an upgrade. The stock speaker cone looks a little ragged to my eye. It's a Marshall 'MG' series with no other data on it...

If it was in fact a proto, and it does appear to be, they won't tell you anything much. Those are done to customer specs and kept in confidence.

No harm in trying it in the Marshall. Could be interesting, not knowing how its voiced. Maybe you will like it!

The speaker in the Marshall is ok, but it's paper with no edge treatment and it's 19 years old, so I was thinking an upgrade may be appropriate????

I'd try it. The speakers in those MGs were nothing to get excited about from what I remember, so it may be a big upgrade in sound and if not it's easy enough to switch back.

Good thinking. The price is right too...$30.00

Got the data sheet from Eminence.

Could some of you more knowledgeable speaker guys give me an opinion on this speaker's suitability for a combo???

Nice speaker. Very well made. Installed it and was surprised at how dark it was compared to the untreated paper speaker in the SS Marshall.

All EQ's had to be altered and even with treble up high, there is still a dark quality to the tone.

My first time experiencing this...dark tone.

The speaker in my 2000 Marshall G50 is also a plain black basket and plain magnet. It only has a small decal on the side of the magnet with some numbers on it...no country of origin.

Put the unbranded, 19 year old, undoped speaker back in and EQ's came right back to center.

Sounds to me that it needs to be broken in. I will usually hook a new speaker up to an amp with a looper playing 10 minutes of my random wank, turn it up moderately loud and go out for the afternoon. 5-6 hours of that really changes a speaker IME.

The stock paper speaker sounds fine, I was just worried about it being 19 years old and no edge treatment.
