Eliminating high-pitched mixer noise

Why am I hearing feedback when using Studio One?

Q: Why am I hearing feedback when using Studio One?

A: If you open a song in Studio One and immediately hear a loud, "squealing" sound, it is likely that your computer contains an internal microphone. Most commonly, this occurs on laptops. If the Audio Device in Studio One is set to your computer's internal sound device rather than your audio interface, this microphone could be picking up a signal from your computer's speakers, resulting in a feedback loop - creating this unpleasant sound.

To rectify this issue, close the song you are currently in an follow these steps:

  1. Select Studio One at the top on the Menu bar
  2. Select Options (PC) or Preferences (Mac)
  3. Select Audio Setup
  4. Change the Audio Device to your Audio Interface
You should then be able to enter the song without this issue occurring. If you are still receiving feedback, make sure that any microphones armed for recording are not positioned near your speakers, as they could be creating a feedback loop as well.

Thanks Chili! I will try the mic thing and then dig into the suggestions in the other thread. Much appreciated!

Hey, I hope it works, and I hope some day to not be such a dummy on so many things. Although sometimes being a dummy is just what it takes. I asked your parameters, and did a couple basic dummy searches like googling Behringer 1202 and DAW,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then I googled High Pitched whistle when using Studio one and Behringer 1202, hoped for the best and voila, possible fixes.

Hurry Up and Fix it, Ray. I wanna know what happens
You did it my friend!! I changed the mic from USB Audio CODEC to "Zoom G5n", which is my new multi FX system, and the recording is silent. Thank you!

However, I am bothered by the fact that this would not have been possible before I got this device 2 weeks ago. So, is there something I can install that would be an optimal "internal mic interface" or whatever it is called? After all, if the Zoom is eliminated, I have to go back to the whistle!

Your behringer mixer doesn’t show up as an option for a mic?
Most likely, the USB CODEC is the Behringer and the interface stinks. The Zoom is also connected via USB (you can control the whole board on-screen instead of stmping through toggles) and that is serving as my DAW interface. Maybe time for a new mixer?

Yes please. You produce prodigious quantities of quality sound bites...it would be good if they were captured with care.
If you insist on a mixer, may I suggest having a look at Soundcraft, or Allen&Heath...their preamps are ok on the small boards, and they are pretty reliable.
If you don’t feel the need for a mixer, and want to explore a nice line of USB interfaces, maybe have a look at the Scarlet line up.

Cinfirmed. I pulled the USB cable on the Behringer and the USB CODEK mic dissapered. I will need advice picking a new one. I actually started looking yesterday. This Mackie gets good reviews for a nice price

I had a Mackie1604 VLZ Pro that left a sour taste...but while it worked, it was good...and it worked for about 6 years of 2-3 gigs per month.
That one you’ve linked to is a different animal.

I’ve had really good results with soundcraft...
Soundcraft Notepad-12FX Mixer with Effects and USB
This one has a nice toolset on board....
Soundcraft Signature 10 Mixer with Effects
Lots of good features too.
I am not proficient with such toolsets at present, but I guess it is time to learn. I am presently using 5 channels (inputs - but not at once), so I guess the next step up from 4 is at least 8. The second SOundcraft fits the bill. Any other suggestions closer to $ 200, or do you get what you pay for?

Sweet!!! glad I could help somewhat. Why do you want to eliminate the Zoom G5n? You got the Zoom G5N 2 weeks ago, right,
not the 1202? In other words, had you not gotten the Zoom, you'd have the whistle still.

My crazy mind will do gymnastics and figure out the whistle sans Zoom.

PS as I asked in one of my pictorials above, what is that DI100? Digital Interface ( I never heard of one, I just sort of am using intuition of a dummy again)
Is a Zoom a DI?

I googled What is a DI 100 and get this
what is a DI 100 - Google Search

Or could something not be right here?

Also, what is this DI 100? Do you have this?

Ray, do you have a DI box plus your Zoom? Does the Zoom have the inputs/outputs like the guy in the video above shows?

You were VERY VERY helpful. I will not be getting rid of the Zoom. I love it. But I do not want to depend on that for my recording needs. There is significant latency and no control over the levels.
