Elenco Substitution Box Kits

why--its "substitutes" resistance (we all know resistance if futile) dont cha know ;)

You can use it to test different values of resistors when your designing or tweaking something. Same for the capacitor box I've got coming in. The two together will allow setting up different value resistor capacitor networks (hi pass, low pass, cathode bypass). I'm hoping to make my own in the near future using higher wattage resistors and higher voltage capacitors, but for now playing with these thru an o-scope will be fun and hopefully educational. The capacitor box could also be used for, say, testing tone caps on guitars. I'm hoping to use a single generator thru them into my o-scope and at the very least go "wow, cool, man..." ;)

These things can be handy when experimenting, the capacitor substitution box for selecting tone caps is ideal. For cathode resistor bypassing or high & low pass filter networks, treble peakers etc however, I prefer to calculate R/C time constants & frequency roll off points. You can use online calculators

I found it on Amazon. What sort of assembly is required? Soldering in the caps/resistors?

The Elenco kits are pretty straight forward and easy. They come with everything, but you will need a soldering iron and a small pair of wire snips. It comes with lead-free solder which I don't like, so, you may or may not want different solder.

Ya, that's a cool app. There's a fair amount of nice free software out there now days.

That is very nice. In fact that is the best one that I ever saw. I borrow one from the fire house.
Good to know I can build one when times are tuff.
