Electronic drum kit for recording. School me.

I'm thinking about getting an electronic drum kit for recording purposes. Looking at the Alesis Surge at the moment. The price is right and it looks like it will plug directly into my Scarlett 6i6 via the MIDI plug or TRS. Anyone have any experience with any of these?
