Electroharmonix.................STRINGS?

HEY ------------------ you know who DOES MAKE THEIR OWN STRINGS?!?!?!?!

S.I.T. (Stay in Tune)
RIGHT IN GOOD OL AKRON OH-HI-HO!

check em out and they arent badly priced either ............typically my "go to string" -- but I had some MF bucks to blow so got 2 sets of the EH for testing --

I didn't like these so much when I tried them. The tension seemed uneven, string-to-string. Had the same problem with Snake Oil and Rotosound.

I like em all, but do have a couple of preferences.
NYXL's are the only string I will use on a Floyd.
And D'Addario Chromes are my go to for that sultry jazz feel, but I just ordered some DR flats to try.
They were cheaper.;)
Other than that, I usually get what's on sale or special.

BUnch of yo'calls in Ohio ......for a decade or so I dont even think they SOLD outside of Ohio -- I learned of them as they were the LOCAL string gettin place .....and cheap

AMAZON has picked them up ....(thats where I get them now) typically same or next day depending on order time.

ANd -- the last set included BOTH a wound AND a regular G --- nice touch since IVE BEEN WANTING TO TRY that ... and now I can :)

Oh, I was all over their website earlier and read a local Akron paper story. They need to advertise if they want to expand. And it sounds like they want to after relocating to new digs. I think the article said they were doing about 3 million in sales. That's not a playa'.

I doubt EHX is making their own strings any more than they manufacture their own vacuum tubes. Most likely rebranded D'Addarios, who seem to be the biggest OEM source of stock.

I think you are correct in suspecting they are rebranded D'Addario.

From the EHX website:

" Electro-Harmonix electric guitar strings are custom-designed to our specifications and made in the USA by a premiere string manufacturer. Each wound string is precision wrapped with round nickel-plated steel onto a high carbon, hexagon-shaped steel core. The plain strings are made from the same high carbon steel as the hex cores. The high quality steel and computer controlled winding process results in strings that intonate accurately, are better at staying in tune and vibrate evenly for maximum sustain. "

From the D'Addario website:

" XL Nickel Wound, D'Addario's most popular guitar strings, are precision wound with nickel plated steel onto a carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core. The result—strings with long lasting, distinctive, bright tone and excellent intonation—is ideal for the widest variety of guitars and musical styles. "

So, both have hexagonal cores for the wound strings, and both have color-coded ball ends (from elsewhere on the websites).

I'm suspicious.

from the SIT website (sorry HEX core isnt D'addario specific)
The "Stay-In-Tune" string that made us famous! Nickel-plated cover wrap over a hard-tempered hex core. Our most popular and widely used electric guitar set. Great tone and longevity and suitable for almost all applications. They are also available in the widest variety of gauges and combinations.

And GHS offers several styles in ROUND or HEX core .....also USA made ..............

the plot she thickens ......................

from strings direct

Most of the popular brands including D’Addario, Ernie Ball, Elixir and Rotosound favour a steel hex core for all of their strings whether they be for electric guitar, acoustic guitar or bass guitar and there is good reason for this.
As you can imagine, for manufacturers the benefits of increased tuning stability is a massive advantage, not to mention, the production process for round core strings is more time consuming so hex core strings have also helped improve manufacturer’s efficiency too.

But, both the EHX and D'Addario have color-coded ball ends.

I want to see if they use the same colors!
