East TN and Western NC after the storm.

Have you been to a NASCAR race? They are unbelievably boring. :D I had no idea how impossible it is to watch in the flesh. Walls are too tall on the stand side to see who is whipping by at 200+mph and the far side of the track is 3/4mile away to be able to see who is who. I spent my time staring at the position marker at the finish line or wandered the pits.
No offense to the NASCAR fans.
I have. Atlanta. Something like 1970 when Dodge and Plymouth were running the winged cars. I believe Petty won. And yep. When they’re on the back straight a Match Box car looks big.

Used to do the local dirt tracks. I was practically walking distance to a 1/4 mile at our County Fairgrounds. Favorite tracks was Davenport Ia Fairgrounds and West Liberty IA Raceway. Both 1/2 mile. Those were fun to watch.

This is an example of what is common in towns all over the Appalachians. This isn't over, even the local news stations are showing rescued dog stories instead of showing the destruction. There are still people completely shut off and they're finding bodies in the debris they're cleaning up that no one is talking about. Unbelievable.

Before and after, Chimney Rock, NC. These shots are from different angles but you can see the sign on the right and the cupola on top of the hotel and the remnants of the sidewalk and grass in the bottom right to see that it's the same place. The road and everything on the left is gone. This happened in seconds...

The sickening part is FIMA gave each illegal invader $9,000.00 + $750.00 for the flood victim tax payers.

I'd take what that site says very cautiously. Not going to get into it why, but I'd trust it as far as a f*rt after three square meals of Taco Bell.

Back to reality.

CTO of our company just gave us a heads up concerning the aftermath of Helene. Western NC is cut off completely, which includes a community that has a major impact on high-level quartz mining. That industry feeds the IC chip manufacturers. They are saying that the impact of Helene could disrupt the global production of IC chips for every electronic device until next April. Grab your ankles, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Wow…it’s the things that go on, that are of little notice…until they are missed…
Things like this will continue to make the spotlight, as we continue to learn the depth of this wound on the affected areas. This is a truly massive disaster. Mother Nature has chosen to hit the reset button there, and it s going to take a gargantuan effort to get the areas halfway back to stability.
