Life long friend of mine is a car customize, his son also.
They have some interesting cars of the style of the red one in post #1.

Not a car, but my grand father has one of these in the barn. He bought it brand new and it's in decent shape. His is Black though...

He can't ride anymore so I can have it if I go to Ohio and have it shipped to SoCal...

Is it worth it???

I'm not sure it will make it from Ohio to California in it's current state. I'm going to have my mom and dad go look at it and get pictures. See if it's all there...

I don't know anything of US values, in Aust a tidy one ... about $12 to $15K.
You have two reasons to get it into your garage, 1st it's free after freight, 2nd it's a family bike.
They're strong in the motor and a little weak electrically once they have a few miles on them.
Parts are available, or so a Guzzi friend of mine tells me.

Vincent Black Shadow, power plant & planetry gearbox designed by Aussie Phil Irving. My dream car,
Assie designed & built A9X Torana (Bathurst spec). These things dominated Bathurst (yearly endurance race). To see one in action check footage of the 1979 Bathurst Hardie Ferodo 1000. Peter Brock starts on pole, leads for the whole 1000 ks, wins by 6 laps & breaks the lap record on last lap. Cheers

Hi WaveMixer, its a 1978 LX A9X General Motors Holden Torana. 5 litre L34 V8. Mightn't look that quick in the footage but its punching 160 - 165 mph down the straight (conrod straight). Quite inovative for its time. One of the first cars to feature the Holden designed Radial Tuned Suspension (RTS) that all cars use now. 4 wheel disks, proper magnesium alloy wheel rims. The bolt on fiberglass wheel arch flares, front & rear spoilers & reverse bonnet scoop are stock factory items. The metal wheel arches are cut out underneath the flares so the 15 x 10 rubber didn't scrub under hard cornering. Cool, low pressure induction air is drawn from the bottom of the windscreen through the reverse bonnet (or hood) scoop. The cars raced under group C regulations, meaning they had to be available to the public as a road car. To race they had to have everything fitted as it came from the factory, & working. Things like cams & carbs were free to be changed, but even the floor matting was rolled up & stuck in the boot. A rudimentary bolt in alloy roll cage was fitted. Oh, the word "Torana" is an aboriginal word meaning "to fly". If memory serves me well, that '79 race, torana's filled at least the 8 places. I think the 1st Ford (351ci XA Falcon) came in 14th. My mate hasn't been back to me with photos of his cool cars but this is one of his early works (had photos on my PC).
He still drives it long distances to hot rod meets. Can't remember what it is other than the obvious "Ford".

Yes Gasket, another very nice car from the design team at GMH. I was just thinking of the 2002 model (1st Monaro re release) & the first ever 24 hour Bathurst race that year. Garth Tanderl & Gary Rogers motorsport get an "advanced pressing" of the then unreleased car, to build a race car for the upcoming 24 hour endurance race. The Monaro was released about 2 months before the race, but Garth's car was finished more like 2 weeks before the race. Now this is an event that Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mosler in England etc etc are hand building race cars for. The worlds best manufactuers wanna win the 24 hour Mount Panorama sprint. The worlds motorsport critics unanimously rate Garths Monaro, which hasn't even had a proper shakedown period, "not to finish the race". I mean, the base car its built from has only been released 2 months ago. The result is phenomenal, astounding. Garth ambles off in the 427ci Munro (Ozz slang for Monaro) & set a relentlessly fast pace from the get go, way quicker than all other teams expect this early into the race, & doesn't let up, ever. The co driver continues the blistering pace. Even after numerous safety car periods (crashes on the mountain are usually spectacular), the closest rivals are several laps behind & some are literally destroying themselves trying to stay in touch. At the 24 hour mark, after 13 safety car periods (no passing but the field compresses), Garth has the Munro an astounding 23 laps ahead of the nearest rival. Check out the last 2 laps of "Garth Tander's 2002 Bathurst 24 hour win" on U tube. Listen to the glorious, ground shaking roar of 427ci V8 cranking out some wicked revs at 200 mph speeds as an Aussie designed car that's rated not to finish the race, toes the worlds supercar manufactures in the but. Cheers

Well Ivan you know your GMH stuff a lot better than me. I raced bikes at Panorama in the mid 70's (before The Chase days). Your vid link in post #13 took me back way too many years , shouldn't really use the frown, actually great memories.
Back to hot GMH stuff, I took a mate a few weeks back to Walkinshaw at Picton to have his new 6.2 SS V redline get the works. Cam, blower and full system now a W547, she sure jumps when you plant it.

Cool. Racing bikes at Bathurst in the 70's would have been a great experience. Motorsports were alive & well in Ozz at that time. I was was a teenager & started a diesel fitting apprenticeship towards the end of the decade, so was just getting into all things mechanical. I owned a couple of toranas during the 80's, but not an A9X. Not much chance of finding one at a reasonable price now. Cheers
